Driveway Drainage for neighbor

The house across the street from me has virtually the whole back & side yard in concrete, so when it rains, all the runoff from the yard & his roof comes out under his RV gate and into his next door neighbors front yard. That yard is 1/4 minus decomposed granite, which promptly washes out into the street. The 75+yr old woman who owns the regularly washed out yard is a nice old gal, on a fixed income, with no one to help out, so the wife & I help when we can.
One of my "helps" comes in the form of shoveling, sweeping, & raking the gravel & dirt back in the yard.
(dozens of time over the years) (after every big rain)
I have the tractor here visiting from its home in the high country, so I switched to the 14" toothless bucket, and dug a drainage channel.
The neighbor whose runoff cause the problem helped with cleaning (prettying up) up the channel, and another neighbor donated some granite rip rap.
The wife & I used my golf cart truck Lil Foot to move the rip rap from 2 doors down & across the street. and after we were done, I swept in the 1/4" minus and blended everything.
Now most of the runoff should be slowed enough to soak in, and what doesn't should go out to the street with out washing away the front yard.
Now I have a partial load of fill to haul to the cabin for use on a project up there.

Tomorrow I will go back to the side yard of the neighbor who donated the rock and "pretty" that up, as we took about 1/3 to 1/2 of the rock along her side yard block wall.

In this day and age we need all the good news stories we can find.

We are blessed to have pretty good neighbors, with maybe one notable exception, who all keep their places up and are usually willing to help out with things like this. I knew the folks we had in on this were plenty to get the job done, but we had (3) other neighbors stop by and volunteer to help.

That’s awesome! I have to do some drainage work this year, do you find that having the 14” toothless bucket worth it? I was debating on just doing the dental work on my 12” bucket since they are bolt on.

Definitely! I have (3) buckets for mine, 10" toothed, and then a toothed & toothless 14".
I originally got the toothless bucket to do some contouring of a slope at my place in the hills, but it works great for drainage ditches also. It doesn't dig in our usually rock hard AZ ground as well as the others, but this ground wasn't too bad.

Great to help out the neighbor.

I still have hard time wrapping my head around areas that don't have grass and lots of green plants. Being a midwestern boy very use to seeing green everywhere. The dirt yards is just something I'm not use to seeing, unless there is Chevy pickup and truck tire marks there.

Her brother is a landscaper and he had the rock left over from some job. She was out of town, so he just had his guys place the rock at the base of her side block wall. (she has a corner lot) She didn't request it or pay for it, so she was willing to donate some to the cause. I took 1/3 to 1/2 half of what was there and today went back and straightened it up again. She told me today it looks better than before.
