Good morning, In 2009 I purchased new a Kubota L4240 with a LA854 FEL. I now have approx. 2,850 hrs. This has been a very reliable, strong machine. The rear tire rims are attached to another rim holding it onto the tractor. I recently discovered the smaller rim has cracked at the holes that bolt to the other rim! This damage is on the port (left) side only but looks mechanically unstable. In addition, The tires were filled with calcium chloride for weight when I purchased the tractor, and for that reason was told the larger rims probably will have to be replaced when I install new tires. It looks like the time is now. I am wondering if it would be best to replace both rims when I replace the tires.
My question is, is there a way to repair the rims or just replace them when I install the new R4s? What would have caused the cracks on one side only?

Those are fatigue cracks, and the safest way is to replace them. A good welder might be able to grind the cracks open and weld them shut, but it will never be as good as new. You don't want to lose a wheel when you are working, and then the cost of getting it fixed will be much greater if the tractor isn't easily accessible.

You can repair rims ....... but with Calcium Chloride in them ........... they may be too badly corroded.

And yes - replace both, I would imagine the other side will be poor once it is looked at on the inside.

'smaller' rim ????

If this is a 'dually' setup, shouldn't BOTH rims and tires be the same size ?

Just wondering .....

It's a 2 piece rim, dish center and outer ring.
Normal rims for AG.
