What Does the P0506 Code Mean? Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0506 stands for “Idle Air Control System RPM Lower than Expected.” It means that your powertrain control module (PCM) has detected an engine idle speed lower than the specified revolution per minute (RPM) for a specific amount of time.Sept 23, 2021

... IF a Kubota P0506 IS the same as the OBD-II P0506....

P0506 or P0606. Don’t see P0506 in the manual, but I don’t have the diagnostic manual…

As a general code Greenville Jay is correct. You may have intake leak or something that can cause the problem. A dirty throttle body can also cause this code.

My L3301 shows the code P0506 (flashing). What does it mean and what do I do about it.
Are you sure about this is the correct code you are seeing? The L 01 series diagnostic manual does not list it.

L3901 and L3301 don't have idle air control......they're diesel engines.

does have a throttle valve, but it's just an air valve used for things that are unconventional if you are used to gas engines. They don't throttle anything, it just reduces ariflow in certain situations during regeneration and that's all it does to my knowledge. They are not problematic.

Kubota does use OBDII but their nomenclature is completely different than SAE standards. 506 might be an IAC in a gas car but it's gonna be something else on a Kubota since the diesel engine doesn't even have an IAC. Probably a similar deal, loss of idle quality or something along those lines.

The most generic definition for P0506 is idle RPM lower than expected/commanded so that is likely how Kubota uses this code. Sites defining it as idle air control have extended the generic code to a fault with a specific engine design.

The "idle air control" for most modern gas direct injection engines is the throttle plate/body assembly and the reason many vehicles (GM for example) require a built in user activated routine to calibrate the plate position sensor after a battery change or other electrical interruption. I ran it recently on my 2014 Cadillac ATS after replacing the battery.
