I'm one of thoes people who gets alot of sinus headaches that border on migranes. Bad smell? Massive headache... Weather pressure change? Massive headache.... Bend over alot.... you get the gist. So I basically live on excedrine but then you can get reflex headaches but I get the headaches anyway so it dosen't really matter. They are headaches caused by sinus pressure so I'm always on edge just needs somthing to irritate it a bit and headache. Doctor says my sinuses are fine so really theres nothing that can be done.

So my main question is anyone else who lives with headaches what do you do?

I feel your pain, an allergy pill every day, a couple cold and sinus pills and prescription nose spray however nothing really takes it away completely...always worse on damp days. Also not good when your doctor suffers from the same thing. I really don't feel right complaining about it when folks I know are going through far worse but it does suck. Lol, maybe Dire Straits got it right.

Do you have the availability of a headache clinic nearby? I had something similar for many years, except add hormones to the triggers. Pain mainly over left sinus. Diagnosed as “common migraine” which differs from the classic migraine in that I didn’t get a visual disturbance. At this clinic they had the ability and know how to explore different strategies and meds. In the end I did the best on blood pressure control meds coupled with Indocin suppositories when headache occurred. Indocin is an NSAID so I could still function, and in that form gets into blood stream really fast. Really requires a specialist although Excedrin migraine (aspirin, Tylenol, and caffeine) is pretty good. My mother survived on bufferin and a cup of tea....good luck, they are truly miserable. Mine have faded with old age.

Caffeine really surprises me that it helps, everything I drink is pretty much caffeine free. I get migraines but not so much bad headaches but much it's like looking through a prism, very irritating but after seeing a buddy of mine suffer with migraines so bad that any light would cause him serious pain I consider myself lucky.

For my sinus headaches I use Aleve-D (you get from behind pharmacy counter) and/or saline nasal spray. Sometimes just the saline spray is enough to work, sometimes it takes both. One Aleve-D pill in morning lasts 12 hours, never take in evening if you want to sleep.

It helps if used as a “medication”, chronic caffeine consumption can hurt. Not drinking a cup when you are used to it will trigger a headache.

The saline nose spray helps me a lot.

For those that get migraines this will sound stupid but it has helped many people that I have known. Eat the skin of an apple. The skin has something in it that will bring you relief. I know some times the headache makes you sick to the stomach that is why I say you only need the skin. You can always eat the whole apple.

I drink the following...
1/2 cup of tomato juice
1/4 cup of orange juice
few squirts of lemon juice
few shakes of salt
...
yeah ,Ok maybe not the best tasting medicine BUT it's worked for me for 3 decades.
used to get awful 'headaches', and now maybe 1-2 a year.

I should tke it BEFORE Iget the start of a headache, but anytie is OK. funny thing is 1-2 hours after drinking it , I finally notice I DON'T have a headache.

I have an idea how it works, and at least it's NOT some 'pill'.

Bad smell? Like "in" your nose/sinuses? Any stuffiness?

I had that problem once. Nasal irrigation helped.

Three thoughts.

1. Have you effectively managed allergies? Different meds work for different people. I spent a lifetime with allergies and nothing over the counter or prescription did a thing - and then, Zyrtec. Works perfect for my kids too - must be a genetic thing.

2. Do you snore? Excessive snoring (likely sleep apnea) can really inflame sinus passages, increasing the likelihood, frequency and seriousness of sinus infections. It can even mimic infection symptoms with no virus or bacteria present.

3. Might you have a tendency towards migraines. They can be tricky to diagnose and treat, but the treatments are completely different than those for sinus infections. When you have those "sinus moments" you described, are they ever accompanied by vision fuzziness or "lights" - this can be a signal of "silent migraines".

Good luck.

Try flushing your sinuses with a Netti pot. Used boiled or distilled water with a bit of salt. If you are kinda nuts you could build a Finnish sauna like I did. The water over the rocks steam thing. I have been taking a sauna about once a week for the last 7 years and have not had a sinus issue since. It used to be a problem for me. Google Kuuma sauna stove for more info. Good luck.

Ran across this today, and so thought I’d add it to the list of things to try: exposure to green light, who would have thought, but those of us that have suffered migraines will try anything especially if non-toxic and cheap.
