I have a BX22 with hydrostatic trans, FEL, belly mower, and backhoe. I found the dipstick to check the hydraulic fluid level and it has two marks. When checking the level; do I do it cold or hot, and do the implements need to be in any certain position. FEL up or down, etc.........TOM

The general rule to checking fluid levels is to check before you start using the machine at the start of the day. This is with everything on the ground and lowered. When you look at the stick the fluid level should be between the 2 marks. I always preferred a dipstick that had holes in it as they are easier to read when the machine gets older then the hash marks.

Thanks for the quick response Michael. It was hard to get in there to pull the stick and the fluid was so clean I could not get a great reading. I kept pulling and touching with my finger to try and find the oil.

To clarify, when you say “everything on the ground and lowered” do you mean the stabilizers and backhoe boom lowered to the ground? Dipperstick and bucket extended or no? TIA

You're reviving a thread from 15 years ago, and Michael hasn't been here in 12 years.

I'd defer to your Operator's Manual. If you don't have one, try here www.kubotabooks.com. Get a Workshop Manual (WSM) while there too.

I don't have a BX TLB (tractor/loader/backhoe). I'm thinking when Michael referenced "everything on the ground," he meant a front end loader (FEL), as that retracts the hydraulic cylinders for the FEL.

With a backhoe (BH), to put it on the ground actually extends the cylinders on the BH and the stabilizers. I'm thinking you'd want to leave in travel position, as some are retracted for the most part.

Again, check the manual. Probably best to be consistent - do it same way each time.

Thanks. The manual doesn’t reference the backhoe. Just a 3pt hitch which obviously isn’t installed when the backhoe is on.

There's quite a few pretty smart guys here on OTT with BX23S tractors and predecessors to the BX23S.

One or more may well chime in with their routine.

It's a legit question.

Trust me, get the WSM if you don't have one. May not answer this question, but will be something you'll want access to at some point.

At least for the current BX I don't believe the manual says anything other than check on a level surface.
I check with everything in the stowed postion. Loader/bucker on the ground, stablizers up and backhoe straight and curled in. This does mean 3? of the backhoe cylinders are extended (bucket, dipper, and pivot).
That should be a fair representation; normal operation the backhoe is in that position. If you remove it the fluid in it leaves the tractor. And if you're using it the stabilizers and curl cylinder are extended to take up any extra fluid from the backhoe.
Don't overthink it, the level is a range, not an exact line.
Someone on here has added JD dye to the SUDT to make it easier to see.
