A note of caution when using chains. The rolling circumference of the tires is changed when using chains You probably will want to be sure not to use 4wd on hard surfaces as there will be extra stress on the drive train. You probably will not experience any problems on soft surfaces, ice, snow, mud, or soft packed dirt. However, you may want to take it out of 4wd when on any pavement, whether you have chains on or not.
Good point.

I always take my tractor out of 4WD when making tight turns out in a bare roadway.

It's stiff without chains and seems more so with them.

Thank You. Not a concern, as, the drive is dirt. Main Rd. is dirt. "OJ" doesn't leave the yd anyways. Only real use "OJ" sees is winter. The drive itself is perhaps 4/5 bus lengths, if that at most, all inclined. Now, I just need me a heated seat, lol. Thank You Again.
The heated seat can be solved by getting a heated seat cover from Walmart. It plugs into your cigarette lighter socket and works from your 12v tractor battery. It even has a vibrate function for massage while you drive.

TY. Actually have one a plugin from HotSeat I believe the brand was. With no cab, can't say I recall being all that warm. I usually bundle-up in a ski outfit, all white mind you. Usually by the time I finish my drive & the neighbors parking spot, I look like "Bumbles" the snow monster. I've frostbite several times resulting in hospital stays. lol not on the tooshie though.

Then I have one more suggesti0on for you. Get a heated snowmobile suit. They make them for motorcyclists too. They also use your 12v battery and they are very warm.

Now ya went & did it. That means more money. Gotta buy a cigarette outlet extender for the seat, the snow suit, any other plugins? how many outlets should I look into? How about a coffee pot, perhaps an electric skillet for any roadkill that may fall victim to those chains, v-bars mind ya, instant tenderizers. Now how am I to keep "OJ's" windshield washer fluid from freezing? Anyways, Thank You for the fresh ideas, keeping me alive.

As long as you seem to want to go 'whole hog', don't forget the pistol and shotgun. You never know if you will run across a trespasser or some really good looking meat on the hoof. I have both on my tractor because I have run across trespassers and some really great meat that just begged to be my next meal.

Morning. Sorry a sidearm may not be the best idea in my case. Eyesight being what it is, probably couldn't hit "the broad side of a barn" anyways. Lord, knows I don't wanna shoot-up one of the new tires. As to humans as great meat, there too I don't believe I could develop a taste for human flesh "Soylent Green" anyone? (classic movie).

I wasn't speaking of humans as meat. I was speaking of rabbits, grouse, and other game. As for the humans, I was only speaking of being prepared for trouble with trespassers camping on my property without permission.

Yes, I figured as much thinking nature & hunting season. I threw the refs to humans being in lite humor. I couldn't shoot either, just not a hunter anyways, lost the taste for venison long ago. Humans don't bother with a lowly o' fart anyways.

Just rereading through the old posts, noticed don't know my own age. I made myself out to be older than I really am at 94. I've discovered I'm 92. Feeling like a spring chicken in Nov. "The More You Know".
