I have an older (2006) BX2350 with a BotaProducts mod which moves the HST filter to the left loader mount using hoses to connect from the transmission to the mod which consists of an adapter, which houses the actual filter.

My questions are: When I remove the old filter from the adapter:

Q1: Do I need to clamp off the hoses going into the adapter to stop any leakage?,
Q2: I assume I have to fill the filter with HST oil prior to screwing it back into the adapter to prevent air in the HST lines?
Q3. If I accidently get air in the lines, how do I remedy that?

Sure hope this makes sense! If not, please tell me how to reword it... Thanks in advance: SpokaneDude (Rolf Marsh)

If the adapter is downhill, I would clamp them. It will get messy, otherwise.

Q2: I assume I have to fill the filter with HST oil prior to screwing it back into the adapter to prevent air in the HST lines?
No, but it's not a bad idea. If it's mounted upright, that is. If it's sideways, forget it.

Drive it, work the loader and bucket, 3PH. It will work out. Not a problem. You'll hear it, and possibly feel it. You'll want to check the level after working it a bit. Add as needed.

Understood, but air in the lines is a normal thing when changing the filters. It works out. (y)

It's not totally sealed system. Think about your HST dipstick. It's only held in place by the friction of the dipstick O-ring, right? Think that thing is holding any pressure? Nope. Fluid flows under low pressure into the tank there, and any air will just bubble up there. The pump pulls fluid from the bottom of the tank and sends high pressure fluid to the implements. It will push any air through the system until it finally gets back to the tank, where it bubbles up.

While it's in there, it will compromise your power, because it's compressible, so just work it out before trying anything serious.

NO!! - betting You’re dealing with the fuel filter and not the HST filter. Pretty sure. Post a picture.

I have a Botaproducts filter relocation kit for my own BX….it’s a FUEL filter. Mounts to left loader mount.

Never heard of anything for HST - filter threads right on body of the housing. Not sure how you’d relocate that….😳😳

Yea big red flags going off for me!
Regardless of if it's a Fuel or Oil filter you never Pre fill them.

Does it look like this?
It's fuel!

I do have the fuel kit new in the box. Might install this spring before mower deck goes on.

If you have an HST filter mod (never seen it) don't crush the hoses as they are probably reinforced hoses as the HST hydraulic system is a pressurized system, and do not pre fill the filter.

gee ,I've done that for years on whatever I can prefill without liquid running out....
have never had a problem yet.....
so I'm curious too as to why not.

Introduction of contaminates? I also have partially filled oil filters to get the faster flow of oil to the bearings when changing oil, and I have no idea if it has ever done anything to lengthen the life of the engine. It was the way that I was taught back in the late 1940s.
Before someone asks, some car manufacturers installed oil filters on their engines as far back as 1926 that I know of. My 1926 Buick Master Model 54C had a Purolator oil filter mounted on the firewall of the engine compartment. Only found 1 replacement for it, and that was at Hershey back in 1963. Sold the car about 50 years ago so it is someone else's problem today.

This issue of prefilling has been greatly exaggerated with the newer systems.
Introducing contaminates can be extremely costly!

Ah, I can see that. Because the hole you fill is the supply side to the system. Therefore, unfiltered. I'm pretty OCD about cleanliness and the diesel tank is filtered. New oil is...well...new.

Ive always prefilled. Im confused on clean oil going in to a new filter would be contaminated. Unless you use a dirty funnel i just dont see how. Can get the same dirt at the filler neck too id suspect.

It's not so much oil, but fuel in the fuel filters. You do have to be very careful with them.
