I keep reading about these. I don't have one, unless the sticker with the white line counts. I've tried looking up pics and that's just leaving me more confused.

Can someone please explain exactly what a level indicator is and what its purpose is?

It tells you when the bucket is set level on the ground. Helpful yes, but not a necessity.

It really is NOT a level indicator ......... it is "the bucket is on the same plane as the wheels" indicator.

SO if you trying to lower the tip of the bucket to go into a pile of rock or dirt it works well - if you are on a slope or over a slight dip it might be useless.

ON my BX the bucket has a flat spot built in that helps me quite a bit - here is the indicator on my tractor and it is very useful to me

others use a rod and markings to indicate when the bucket is parallel to the tires.

The OEM Kubota (at least for mine) is the silver rod on the inside of the right loader boom. I’ve found it useful but more competent/experienced operators may not. To me, it’s kind of like a cheap red dot sight on a .22 rifle. It gives you a verifiable consistent reference point. You may adjust from there, but at least you have a reference.

And yes, I went with OEM because I had a $50 coupon for any parts or service but they wouldn’t let me use it on hydraulic oil and I sort of wanted one anyway.

I'm sorry to be so dense, guys, but I'm still not getting it. I'm not seeing it in airbiscuits' pics and I can't see what it does in NCLs' last pic either.

See if this helps out a bit

In the first two pictures - there is a bend that lines up with the bracket - so when the mark hits the bracket - the bucket is "level"

When the bend hits the notch - the bucket is level in this picture.

To say it again, as the bend travels through the notch, there is movement up or down to let you know you are getting to the happy place. It is a very obvious and easy indication to see. (it just kind of plops in)
