I just bought a new B2301 and I am loving it. Looking to expand my implements and wanted advice on whether to get a 48" or 60" box blade? Use will be split between gravel driveway and yard leveling. Also wanted advice on a bush hog. Will the B2301 handle a 5ft rotary mower?

For most applications, 5hp per foot of "bush hog / shredder" is recommended. My friend has a ~30hp Kioti with a hydostsat and it is at best marginal in my pasture. Even creeping in the lowest gear, I have often bogged it down and even killed it a few times.

With the box blade, you are going to be traction limited, especially with R4 tires. Buy a smaller heavier box blade. Weight is your friend here. Wait and save your pennies if necessary, don't cheap out and have 'buyers remorse'. The most expensive box blade is the one you replace because it doesn't work well.

Best Regards,
Sid

Added: The brush hog is a 5 foot unit.

With 23 HP, it SHOULD pull a 5' mower. I would measure the tires, and if they are 60" from outside to outside, Then I'd get the 5 footer. I generally don't like a mower that sticks out a lot, cause you can snag fence posts, and cause bark damage to trees, both of which I have plenty of. JMHO. :D:D

I am new to Kubota tractors but I have a L185 which is under 20hp and it didn't have any trouble running a 5 foot box blade as long as I didn't let the box fill up totally. I went with the country line from tractor supply which I understand is just a re-branded king kutter and works great.

Re brush hogs... I have a 5 foot brush hog and it worked fine running in low gear cutting grass/weeds 1-2 feet tall.

Opinions vary. Most tractors can pull a bush hog that is too big through light stuff. What happens when you are in your lowest gear / hydro range and you are bogging down your tractor and getting a very ragged cut?

Running a finish mower is a whole lot easier than a brush hog in rough pasture.

That little Kubota is a nice tractor but, there is no way it would work on my property with a 5' bush hog. I have the same engine in an RTV and BX and while a good match for a lawn mower and a real fuel miser, it isn't a real power house on my property.

As a point of reference, I'm running a 6 footer on a geared L4600F.

Hi There, I just bought a B2601 and i'm running a LP 48" and i'm happy with it. In my owners maunal there is a page called "implement limitations".
It gives max limitations in widths and weights. Page 5 and 6 i think, look in your contents. Hard to go wrong with the manufacturer's limitations for warranty purpose as well.

Arkypyro,

I have a B2601 (same frame as your tractor) and I bought a 48" LP rotary mower. Everyone tells me that I should have got a 5' model, but I'm happy with my decision. The cutter just barely covers the tractor width and I can drive full speed in M range without bogging down. I'm guessing it would pull a 5' model just fine in L range, but driving in L for extended periods of time gets old! I haven't pulled a box blade yet, but my recommendation would be to get one just wide enough to cover your tire tracks. My 2 cents.

The 4 footer will work a lot better in heavy under growth. What happens when low range won't pull a 5 footer? Been there, done that with ~30hp Kioti and light duty 5 foot brush hog.
