Somehow, in my haste to put my new spreader on my B2601 in the fall, I didn't notice the bend in the draw bar. It was kinda dark. :D I'm not even sure when I bent it. I'm surprised that I bent a piece of metal that robust. I have done a lot of pulling and dragging stuff with it. When I get a new one, should I put it in farther? I'm not even sure if they do go in any farther and I can't check it with the bent one. I guess I'm impressed that the tractor bent it.

I would bet that someone used the draw bar to tie the tractor on a trailer and that's what bet the bar. ;)

That looks like it was made of inferior quality iron!!

Take it to your dealer and ask him what he thinks caused it! I'll bet he hasn't seen many bent like that. In my opinion he owes you one, if your tractor is under warranty.

D2Cat: Iron??? That had better be steel. What's inferior Iron anyhow? A long lever arm like that is easily over stressed. Going to the dealer will make the guy waste his time. If you want to keep things from bending you do things to the steel such as work hardening, heat treating, etc. Try bending it back and it will look like a shallow "S". The first bend has been work hardened. Don't use heat in case it is heat treated. Chances are this is annealed steel, in which case heating won't affect it negatively. If you are worried about more bending, then cut it off so the lever arm from its support is short.

Ya, a common term for steel parts, but then at the dealer what? Dealer knows nothing about steel types of which there are hundreds of standard steels. He will take it in ( keep a happy customer) and give the guy a new one. The old one will be heated, straightened and painted and placed back on the shelf for the next guy. Could be earlier another customer also brought in a bent bar it it got the same treatment and so the "new one" was just that older one straightened after the earlier customer. Shorten it up and be done with it.

I'm pretty sure it's never been used to tie the tractor to a trailer. The tractor isn't even a year old yet, I'm pretty sure it's under warranty. I like the flipping idea! I will bring it to my dealer when I get a chance. Worst case scenario, I'm sure they aren't too expensive. You can be sure I will be periodically inspecting my darwbar from now on. I will report back after I go to the dealer.
