I bought a 2017 4060HSTC with 107 hours on it on 06/19/21. On 07/09/2021 I noticed some junk in the water separator an started treating it with PS Bio Kleen.

On 10/10/2021 today I to the water separator apart and I am getting a little junk inside the screen. The tractor has 250 hours on it now.

The pictures show what has built up in about 120 hours.

I pumped out the RH tank thru a screen and got a little bit of junk.

It has the third function kit on it.

I am thinking about pulling the tanks out.

As you're probably aware L4060 has common-rail fuel system which is very susceptible to fuel system damage from foreign material. So I agree the fuel system needs to be free of foreign materials. My neighbors M8560 with common-rail fuel system developed algae in the fuel tank & cost him $7500 for new IP & injectors.

Whatever you decide to do, the first step is to fill all tanks with fuel and treat aggressively with biocide. The idea being to hit all surfaces. With enough time for biocide effectiveness.

Myself I would leave the tanks in place, continue with biocide, and check/change filter often. I would continue to keep tanks full for full coverage of biocide and to prevent interior tank condensation.

That is what I did and intend to continue doing with my Diesel engines. I use the same BioKleen as pictured above and rely on my fuel filters to do their job.

Power Service also makes a product called Clear Diesel. It cleans out the fuel tank and lines. It might be worth running that through too. The directions say it is recommended to use with the BioKleen.

I pulled the left hand tank. The left hand tank has the fuel pickup and fuel gauge.

I was able to look inside and push a rag around. It seems to be clean.

I have been keeping the tank full with treated fuel.

I think I am near the end of the problem.
