I have an old B6100 with a d650 engine .Has anyone swopped out the engine for a larger and more modern unit. I was looking at a 905 engine, but would like to know what people have done and would recommend.

Not very easy to swap out to the newer motors, things changed to much.
I'm not saying it can't be done it just wouldn't be easy.
The flywheel, clutch dimensions are very critical to make it work properly.
Next major issue is the hydraulic pump system, that changed quite a bit so some serious plumbing rework would be needed.

Now you could go with a D650, D750, D850, D950 and the D850 and D950 have a waterpump version which is a nice upgrade, and all of those will be bolt in options, with minor changes for the water pump versions.

Or just do what I just did and rebuilt yours.
I just did a rebuild on a previously swapped out unit that they went from a D750 to a D850.
Doesn't sound like much , but the specs for the D750 are at 16HP and the D850 is a 22HP, so quite a gain.
I also have another B7100 that was a D750 swap to a D950 at 19HP with a water pump.

Thanks for the reply. I am sure i have read on here that someone has done a engine change.
I've done several swaps, but never a never engine in this series, but I would try if i had the opportunity. ;)

I have a 6100 and need 20+ HP to run a northern tool 5 ½” chipper. The D850 has that power. Where would a guy go to find that motor? Is there a web site for used motors? I have the 743 bobcat also FYI.

Yea but does your 743 have a V2203DI engine? ;)

Here is the real issue your facing, even if the engine is 20HP or even 22HP (rare motor)
You still wont be able to produce the PTO HP as that would only be 16HP to 18HP max.
And 2 HP is a lot when it comes to PTO powered equipment.

Yes and thanks. But 10 hp to 16-18 hp to operate a chipper is worth the try.
i got caught up in the try to overhaul a D650 just to get it starting and reduce the excessive blow by. 64mm, 64mm .05 over are both obsolete. Can’t find them at all. And can’t find a used D850 either.
i saw a guys post on UTube where he modified his motor with a turbo charger. Perhaps that would work better. From all I can tell the D850 and D950 have the same block and heads with the 70mm stroke. So why the big difference In advertised HP?
Thanks for any enlightening. Mike

The bore and valves are bigger on the D850 and D950.
