Is he having "Rocky Mountain oysters" for dinner?
March 13 he could, but we won’t go there…. 😉

He’s very confident, and charges into the Veterinarian’s office like he owns the place.

Might change after that visit….😳

Pups helped us assemble the pit and boil sap…we’ll sort of…they kinda do taste testing before we start the boil. It’s nice to have them around.

Fell asleep watching hockey with the old guy on a lazy Saturday afternoon.
Not sure who has it better.

Ok, so maybe there was the one time he shared with brother Henry—but he wasn’t happy about it.

Trying to boil second batch of the season but my wood pile keeps disappearing…
How many taps do you do? I used to do about 30. Target was 3-5 gallons.

Geddy still likes the woodfire, just from a different vantage point. Just a couple minutes ago, after playing outside.

I have 18 taps out here close to my house (walking distance)…each week seem to get different amount weather depending…2 weeks ago about 25 gallons sap in a week….this week I was somewhere between 12-15 gallons sap. Very small scale, just trying learn and understand what we like/dislike before shelling out to much….our other place has a large stand of sugar maples, but we can’t handle the sugaring so far away…so we are trying to learn now, if that makes sense.

my pup is fascinated with the fire pit…the older one won’t go near a fire or stove.

My taps were yard trees and nearby also. Could run most everything via tubing to a 30 gallon container. Sometimes full in a day. 😲

Boiled in garage over propane camp stove and turkey fryer burner. Went through a lot of propane.....😲

Neighbor now taps most of the place, ~150 taps. He says one of his better locations in his 1,000 tap operation.

That’s sounds awesome…well we are very small scale, and actually 95% black walnut sap (last year was our first try)…our other place has lots of sugar maples but we can’t be there to do the syrup (while still working our day jobs) so we are learning at home getting ready for what comes after day jobs. It’s great dogs get to come along and help out so all is good. I’d like to get to a point as you described in your note…except with wood fire.

You don't have dogs....you have woodchucks! 😆
Yeah, i sort of don’t know much about dogs but I can tell you here in the last week or so he (the pup)has figured out what ‘it’s’ for….and I can tell you he is lucky to be alive…his current hobby is trying to put it where it doesn’t belong on the older female…that and running for his life but he hasn’t learned…it’s hard for some of us 😉….he finally wore himself out and what I do know is a sleeping puppy is a well behaved puppy…took all day but he finally collapsed yesterday.

Oh, my mistake/assumption... we're Maple Country here.

Heard of birch and walnut syrups, but never knew anyone that did them.

As I recall, sap is "thin" for sugar content, and have to be careful of burning the sap/syrup.

Plenty of maple places near us I just happen to have a stand of black walnuts…by taste I don’t believe most would notice…the walnut has a little more nutty aroma on the raw syrup, but I’ve tried blindfolded and on a pancake it’s not distinguishable. It’s tasty and I am learning the process.

He’s starting to look grown up.

8+ months old. Guessing about 70 pounds.

Now this is a sweetheart after what she’s been through.

Truly an Awesome Dog!

Our kids in Philly are dog-sitting a Rescue female pit bull that was used as a “bait dog” in dog fights. Part of her jaw is damaged due to that.

My wife met her last week. Real sweetie.

People that do that should have their……well I’ll keep the rest to myself….😡
