My oldest daughter was 20 or so and wanted to hug our dog as we put her peacefully down. She cried for a full day after we got home. In her 30's, she and her husband had to put down their cancer ridden dog. She called and said it never gets better, you just understand more and cry a little less.
My pup is very much like me right now. Would rather sleep than run and looks twice before climbing the back stairs. She will be our last, and we she passes I'll go up the back hill and howl at the moon to let our earlier dogs know she is on the way .
edit for spelling.

For many years we’ve put our dogs outside on a 50 foot rope.

With Geddy getting to 50+ very athletic pounds, I went from a 1/4” to 5/16 rope.

May have to go to 3/8, but this size should work for a long time.

I found the rope we had for Ernie, our first dog. 147 pounds of monster. We guessed he was a Labrador/ Great Dane mix.

Super friendly and sweet guy, but he was a force to be reckoned with for strength. He didn’t even need a rope in his older years. Been gone 20 years, but I still have his rope. We miss him a lot.

9/16” rope. Used 1/2” for 500 pound heifer collars on the farm…. He broke 1/2” like it wasn’t there….

Compared to Geddy’s old rope.

PS - the Mrs. had a couple pictures of the big guy.

The twins are 30 now….

just rescued this girl from a kill shelter a week ago. 18 months old. Shes a gsd/hound mix. Tiny girl only 48lbs.

after taking a 5 year break from dogs (last two gsd were premature deaths due to stroke and cancer) i was ready for my farm dog. Shes already attached at my hip everywhere.

She is beautiful. Definitely a keeper! Sure wish that I could get lucky enough to find a dog that both me and the wife could agree on.

He might be half Husky and stay outside even in a blizzard (because we can't convince him to come in even with bacon) but he loves his blanket. Tough guy till its movie time in the rec room.

Max enjoyed all the Thanksgiving activities and food to much. This was on Saturday, he was passed out on the sofa. He isn't use to having a house full of people and kids. Of course he got WAY to many table scraps. He was such a good boy, he even played with the babies and let them pull on him. He just ate up all the attention.
