Hi, older neighbor has just offered me first opportunity on his small Kubota BX1880. He is very old, and bought it new, and only used it 5 times. He bought it for his wife to do a small garden, since she could no longer operate the hand tiller. It has around 30 hours on the engine, and it is in mint condition (not a scratch).

2021 BX 1880
30 Hours on engine
Has joystick and valves for loader (NO LOADER)
Comes with 48" Land Pride Tiller in Mint Condition
Comes with 60" Land Pride Disc Harrow (Never Used)
Comes with a used 5ft off brand grader blade (fair to good Condition)
Has 3 Point Hitch

He offered it to me for $8750.00 (I don't want to negotiate on price, since him being a neighbor) Just offered it to me this evening, and wanted an answer by tomorrow. Wasn't planning on buying a compact tractor, but I'm considering buying to have a second finish mower. I wouldn't have a need for those attachments, since I already have a BCS rotary tiller with a Honda engine.

Is $8,750.00 a good price? What should the 48" Land Pride tiller and 5 foot Land Pride Disc harrow bring in the used market? I would want to sell the implements and get the 54" belly mower, and a small 60" cut bush hog?

I looked the tractor up online, and it retailed for like $12,750, and Kubota had a $2,500 rebate, so I really don't know if $8,750.00 is a good price given the rebate you can buy the tractor itself for basically $10K after rebate. This caught me by surprise, so I haven't had any time to do any pricing.

Any help would be appreciated.

The tiller was like $3K (Retail) and the Disc harrow was like $2K (Retail), but these were the retail prices listed on Kubota. Do you think you could get 50% to 60% of the retail price on the used market for like new used implements? Would like to sell those, and get the belly mower and a small bush hog. Just don't know how easy it is to sell used farm implements especially for these small sub compact tractors.

I would think the tiller would be easier to sell than the disc harrow.

What did you guys pay for the bare bones base tractor? Just trying to figure out if this is a good enough deal to say yes, since this would definitely be want not need purchase.

It's not a bad price:
But.....
It's the smallest tractor in the lineup with the lowest HP.
It's already at the lowest resale value with it not having a mower deck or a loader.
The implements are not cheap but you're not going to sell them at full price so you'll take a loss on that.
The mower deck is going to set you back quite a bit because you'll pay much more for it than if you bought the tractor with it already included.

You do not need a tiller. You do not need those other implements. You will be stuck trying to sell them …just like the present owner is stuck trying to sell all that stuff.

Tell him “Thank you, …but No, ..I just don’t need it.”

Then, if you later decide to get a small tractor like that…. then get the rebate, the implements you WANT…. as well as the factory warranty (which will not likely come to you for bailing him out of that thing.)

Pros:

It is a good price on a basically new - 4wd diesel tractor.

You know it's history.

The tiller is far better and easier to use than your walk behind BCS... 100 percent easier. Once you go tractor rototiller, you won't want to go back. Sell the BCS to help cover the cost.

Tractor has some add ons.

You can put a front end loader on it.

You can put a belly mower on it.

You would be helping a neighbor.

Cons:

A disc harrow on that size tractor is only good in pre-tilled soil. The disc is basically a lawn ornament. Almost worthless.

If you need a very small tiller ONLY. The BX1880 Kubota may be too big.

To make it really really usefull a loader is a few grand to buy.

A mid mower is expensive but can be had.

A 60" brush hog is way too big for that tractor.

Unless you can find a used mmm, it's gonna be expensive, a 3 pt rear finish mower would be cheaper ... A 48' brush hog is still gonna give that tractor a workout ...

If you want a second finish mower, but a Z-turn.

I'd probably pass on it ...

I like that quote from TJ.

I tend to agree with the sentiment as well.

If the OP was not actively looking/searching for a machine, it sounds like he is "buying it for the wrong reason".

With the numbers you posted, it does not sound like a "bad deal", but myself, personally, I would probably get a new machine with a FEL and the implements I needed/wanted instead of having to go through the BS hassle of posting them for sale.

Then meeting with 300 "a$$hole tire kickers" that are going to offer you pennies on the dollar (and that are probably scouting out your place to rob later)

..........Then going out and buying the implements you really needed/wanted in the first place

But thats just me.

I hate selling stuff, or having to travel to some "unknown Trolls house", armed to the teeth, just to save a few bucks.

In general, I'm a "buy it new from the dealer" kinda guy, and keep it forever.
