Changing the hydraulic fluid on a L4400 manual trans, there are 2 drain plugs one is normal looking the other has some sort of little rod that runs up the middle of it,, that one what is it for?? the rod is bent and it leaks hydraulic oil, so was thinking of just putting a regular plug in replacement or is this a bad idea, I cant figure out what its for.

here is link to part number photo

Looks to me like it's a vent. I wouldn't just put a plug in.

It is used to check for condensate or other liquids. Oil shouldn't be here unless one of the seals is leaking.

I wouldn't plug it. If oil is leaking it could contaminate the clutch.

The plunger shouldn't be bent either, but not certain I'd worry about it.

That vent with the jiggler is to let any liquid out without letting trash in. If there is very much fluid coming out the vent, you have an internal seal leaking. Pertaining to hydraulic drain plugs, there are also two plugs in the rear gear housing. One on the right, one on the left just to drain these small sumps. They will refill from the main filler cap.

That is a weeping drain, it's to let water out of the clutch housing.
Now if you've got hydraulic fluid leaking out of it, then you have a seal that's bad, it probably the front wheel drive shaft seal.
You're going to need to split the tractor to fix it. ;)
