Is there a Mid Mount Mower that will fit my early 1979 B7100D, 4 wheel drive?

I looked under the tractor and saw no PTO located on the gear case (bell housing) that faced toward the front of the tractor. The only PTO I have found is located on the aft end of the tractor near the three point hitch. However, the under side of the transmission, directly under the gear shifter, I found an square opening which I can see a universal joint and drive shaft. I believe the drive shaft is for the front wheel drive and below this drive shaft is another gear which turns when the PTO is engaged.

According KUBOTA's website, the following mower decks will fit my version of the B7100D, B-48
B-48A
K-48
RC60-71H
RC60-71HR

The MMM for that model tractor are driven off an electric clutch setup that is run off of the front of the engine thus drives a belt setup to run the deck.

You are going to have a tough time finding the parts for the clutch setup as they are becoming very rare.

Wolfman, thank you for the information. Looks like it might be easier to find an aft 60" mowing deck. You confirmed what I thought when I saw IPB of a RC60-71H mowing deck.

Thanks again,

Just a thought, has anyone ever converted a MMM to a rear pto mount mower?

You could, but you would have to change the gearbox and add a lot of supporting parts, really not worth it. :(
Even if you found a deck with a shaft driven box, you still would have to do some major work as the stock MMM box is looking for a 2000+ RPM input so the 540RPM output of the rear would leave it spinning way to slow. ;)

I picked up a 60in mmm for a b7100hst with hopes of converting it to rear mount use behind my b7100d. But like Wolfman said it just wasn't worth all the required changes to make it work properly. I ended up getting a woods rd60 instead, so far it has been the better choice for me.

In the course of my 7100D's life so far it has had a 48" rmm, 48"mmm, and now 60"rmm. Honestly after having used all 3 I prefer the 60"rear mount. Rear mount is easy on and easy off, while the mid mount mower for the gear 7100 is not quick attach. Only advantage the mmm for the gear tractor was that you could leave the mower running whIle changing gears (more like a hst tractor)
The biggest downfall with the 7100D is the single stage clutch which makes you start running the equipment at the same time you start moving.

Depending on the size of your property I'd look into either a 48" or 60" rear mount. 48" will be easier on the tractor overall but the 60" will let you do the job faster if you have a decent size property
