Have a 2017 L3901 HST 4Wd. Mine just started really roaring/rattling last week. I'm scared to drive it with out someone looking at it. I have 157 hours on the tractor been great but just started this roaring ratting noise in the hydrostat area under the steering wheel area. I am going to change the two HST filters to see if there is an issue with them but i don't think that is what it is. Maintenance was done at scheduled intervals. Here are two short videos kind of hard to hear but you can hear it stop at one point. Any advice or help would greatly be appreciated.

Chris

I tried attaching a video but im a newbee it will not let me attach the you tube video. Just go to you tube and type in this to see it L3901 HST 4WD ratting roaring

I tried searching with your long word string but didn't find it. Eventually was able to. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46dvZoElo50

My technical skills are stronger with computers than tractors, so I'll let someone else try to decipher the noise.

sounds like a clutch release bearing failing. That seems unlikely with 157 hours. Have you been doing some severe work? Do you use the clutch a lot? HST tractors are much less likely to suffer clutch problems.

If it's under warranty get the dealer to fix it!

Throw out bearing making noise (might just need clutch rod adjustment).

Other than that, things are all internal and require a lot more work!

Parts manager says 2 years and can't rember the exact hours but it's much more than 157 what ever comes first. You may have bought the extended warranty to get 6 yrs?

I just looked up the warranty coverage it's 6 years on powertrain, the only thing not covered in the clutch housing is the Clutch disk so if that's the issue you'll be on the hook for that but if it's the throwout bearing it's on them.

Take it in and get it fixed!

And don't ever trust a Parts Manager on warranty coverage times, they make money selling parts not giving them to the service department to fulfill warranty claims!

One more thing my wife works over in another county and it's close to the dealer where I bought it from. I had called ahead to parts desk to ask please get both hydro filters for a l3901hst 4wd and just have them on parts desk so my wife went by Tues morning grabbed the bag paid and when I got home Tues night had one wrong filter and two chain saw blades in my bag. So I called this morning Wednesday and explained the parts guy said he pulled them and they were right he kept saying part number changed (whatever) my wife goes in this morning the part guy says wrong filters here are the right ones I guess we will see later tonight. I say this because I removed the smaller filter today because I'm off work and just wanted to see if there was any debris in the filter and it wasn't. I will change both out over weekend prob will not make a difference.

You don't have any of those...You have a L3901 it's not a L39, that's a completely different tractor.

Last time... Your L3901's powertrain is still covered under the 6 year warranty!

I just replaced both hdst filters and the main filter had a large piece of looks like ball bearing housing fragment stuck in it. I replaced and added fluild back still sounds wrong. I plan to call the dealer Monday morning.
