Because it is diesel and hydraulic, is it possible to increase the horse power slightly ie. the pressure?

Thanks for the help with this one request.

I'm a little confused as to your question?

To increase motor HP you would have to do some motor work, none of which is cheap or easy.

To increase hydraulic force of the hydraulic system, yes you can adjust the pressure up to some degree, it's how far you go before you start having some serious issues is the problem.

If your asking does raising the hydraulic pressure also raise the HP, No it actually reduces the available HP as the pump uses more to make a higher pressure.

Thank Wolfman, just that with the BX we can increase the pressure to obtain a little more lift ie. work with the hydraulics, the GR doesn't have FEL or BH etc. but is still hydraulic and guess it does not need the additional pressure to do only what it is designed for. it's little 17hp motor seems "weak" compared to others but being diesel may that is not a fair comparison to other models.

Just comparing some options for a possible new purchase. :)

It used to be that some engines were derated and you could increase the power output by "over fueling". You can only get the increase in power IF there was enough oxygen in the cylinder to burn the extra fuel. Otherwise you would just get black smoke because all the additional fuel was not completely oxidized.

With emission controls on today's tractors it's really not possible unless you illegally tamper with the PCM and it is doubtful you can do that. If you can't get the engine to develop more power, there's no way to get the HST to make more power because it gets its power from the engine.

Guys, leave the engines alone. Increasing HP from the engine means you will be tampering with the original designs' emissions which is a violation of federal emissions regulations. You take that risk if you're playing with the motor.

For the HST, it doesn't need any more help breaking-thus my suggestion is to leave it alone and service it often.

Actually in some engine designs HP CAN be increased and very simply and cheaply ...depending on what you call “cheap”.

If you reset the governors to higher RPMs a modest increase in HP output can be had. Twisting that screw can be cheap. But the true cost will be an unknown because that engine will have a shorter life if increased HP is demanded of it that way.
(The M4700 and the M5400 have the same basic engine with the 5-7 additional HP in the M5400 being derived with a higher max operating RPM. That is achieved with a governor adjustment and torque enhanced with a turbo. The lifespan of the M5400 is likely shorter, IMO, but that is difficult to evaluate and in any event is unlikely to be a concern to the average owner.)

I checked the specs, and the GR2120 horsepower rating of 17HP has been increased, and is now 21HP. I assume the engine is unchanged, so perhaps the 4 HP increase comes from a new method to calculate the horsepower rating. Kubota is a little quiet about this HP increase.
