So B737 are you on vacation with all the cancelled flights?

Here is a link to some definitions of the terms being thrown around if you are not a biologist.

https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsa...r-wuhan-coronavirus-from-droplets-to-zoonotic

NPR is a good source for news on this material.

My guess as to why they are taking this seriously, the news hype not withstanding, is that with no one having any immunity to this virus, and with it being clearly contagious, there is a probability of there being an awful lot of sick people needing supportive medical care, not being able to go to work, or deliver food to the stores, or gas to the gas stations. Even with a relatively low mortality rate there could be a significant impact.

For historical examples look at the number of times isolated native populations have been decimated by illnesses brought by Europeans.

With luck it won't spread in this country the way it is in China with its more dense population.

If it had been up to me I would have home quarantined everyone that had been in China period, not just Wuhan, last week, but I can imagine the political fallout from that. It is so much easier to inconvenience a relatively small number of people than try to build new hospitals in two weeks as China is trying to do. Of course home quarantine in this country is of limited effectiveness due to the number of people who feel that restrictions don't apply to them, eg the two that went walkabout during an Ebola observation period.

Was at St. Joe Mercy in Ann Arbor today for my post op surgery consultation concerning my right eye cataract lens replacement (had the left done 12 days ago) and they are being extremely extra careful up there, wiping everything down with alcohol towels, etc.

BTW, left refracted at between 20-25 and 20-19 depending on how much I blinked. Amazing since I could not see at all out of my left. Right isn't too bad but might as well get it done too.

Surgery is quick and painless, prep is a pisser though. Prep is an hour, surgery is 5 minutes. Take out the old lens. inject a bit of antibiotic, set the new lens and you are done. I now have a lens made in Fort Worth, Texas in my left peeper and probably soon in my right.

My wife and I are limiting our exposure to the public as much as possible, especially the inconsiderate ones that sneeze and cough without covering their noses and mouths.

I have the answer to Wuhan... Thermonuclear explosion....

This "issue looming that could change your life" thing is going too far.

I had a Total Knee Replacement done on my left knee on November, 18th. Now today I had an MRI done on my right shoulder. I find out the results next Monday and what needs to be done to regain the full use of my right arm.

Not the flu, but my life has certainly been changed.

One school in the area closed so they could disinfect.

Doctors office has had an influx of people coming in to get checked for the flu.

I haven't left the house since being diagnosed Tuesday. Only stop after the docs was to the pharmacy. quarantine lifts for me saturday. Not cleared to go back to work till monday.

My wife went through a bout with flu in January. She had gotten the flu shot, I did not, and thankfully I did not catch it from her.

I had a total replacement done on my right shoulder two years ago. It had been giving me problems for a couple of years, but then I really screwed it up helping my niece's husband work on his F150. The next day I was in agony, took lots of Aleve, but even that didn't help. Was able to get into a local specialist, and an x-ray showed it was just worn out, no ball left on the humerus. She gave me a cortisone injection that didn't help a bit. Saw a surgeon a few days later, got the surgery scheduled (six weeks later, he's popular) and got 'er done. After leaving the hospital the next morning, I never took any painkillers, none.

Only ended up taking ten days of physical therapy, range of motion was excellent.

If I didn't have the scar, I would hardly ever notice I had it done. The only lack of range of motion is reaching behind my back as the surgery detached a muscle that was unable to be re-attached. Zero pain ever now.

After hearing so many horror stories about shoulder surgery, I was really apprehensive about having it done, but it turned out to be a breeze.

I hope yours turns out as well as mine did.

I'm glad I don't live in China for any number of reasons, but look at these photos of the "hospital" under construction. Besides the problems of hasty construction, look closely at the bedroom modules....looks like bars on the windows to me. More like a quarantine prison with maybe not much care dispensed.

Oops forgot to add link:

Jumped on You-Tube and checked it out. Looks like a jail but then we forget that China is a dictatorship and as such, you really have no rights, unlike here. Don't want to go there or India for that matter.

They have a very serious problem ongoing and I suspect even more so now that it was of their own doing. I think something got out of that test facility in Wuhan and the Corona virus is it.

Just think about China next time you go to Walmart and buy some 'Made in China' stuff.

A cousin on the " rich " part of my extended family about 10 years ago went on a month long China tour. She came back with an unknown auto-immune style disease and just withered away over a 2year period. No real evidence as to what, when, where of the disease.
Some think the chinese did this on purpose as population control. What really bothers me is our govt bringing those folks back to the US after hearing an interview with Dr Ben Carson saying this virus is airborne . Maybe I'm just paranoid since many years ago reading " The Hot Zone " about the honest to God outbreak/release of an Ebola strain at a us research lab.
