Not sure why the shaft is coming out but the manual shows a screw inside hold it it together. Can I just remove the PTO cover screws and pull out the assembly and tighten the screw or replace the screw. Or do I need to disassemble the gearbox ?

Yes, you should be able to pull the rear cover and fix it. ;)

Picked up some new oil from Stewart’s equipment removed the 6 bolts. Removed the cover , pulled out the shaft and voila no bolt on the end holding the bearings together. Replaced the bolt and washers, reassembled and filled with oil. Works great .

That's great to hear:

If it was mine, I would be getting into it further to find the bolt that's rolling around in the case! ;)

Although that would be a perfectionist’s action (and we know about you)...LOL
... the likelihood of that bolt/washer actually getting tangled up with anything is really really remote, don’t you agree?

Yea, probably only a remote possibility. :)

Would there be an easy way of doing this? i thought of a magnet but it would make it to the bottom without attaching itself to other pieces. too bad you didn't have a magnet that you could turn on after inserting into the case...

Pull that PTO shaft back out and fish thru the opening with a mechanic’s magnet on a flexible rod (such as Horrible Fright sells.)
