Hi there,

A b6000 owner wants to get a brush hog. But I found out that I will need a reverse direction overrunning clutch (coupler) to run it.

Anybody let me know where I could get such a thing?

Thanks!

I guess I ask if you have a reverse direction brush hog? Or have you found blades that can be reversed? I have seen pto reversers for sale on this forum, and ebay. I have also seen pics from people that made there own.

As for your reverse overriding clutch, sorry, I haven't seen one.

ASC sells them, www.AgriSupply.com in the latest flyer on page 19, catalog number 102248 and 90654.

Tractor Supply has the Weasler brand in their stores on the shelf in tractor and ag parts as well.

I run them on all my pto implements that don't come with them standard equipment.

Much better to run an over running clutch (ratchet clutch) than using the tractor's internal PTO brake to slow a spinning implement. Less wear on the PTO brake.

My disc mower has one as well as my square baler standard. I added one to my Land Pride bat wing mower last spring when I purchased that.

Hope that helps you. I recommend them (over running clutches).

Flip, the B6000 has the PTO turning in the opposite direction as just about all other tractors! Creates a new problem with the clutch.

Didn't take that into account, sorry. All my pto's turn the normal direction. I wonder if you could take one apart and reverse the direction of the pawls inside? Might be worth a look.

Thinking about that, you'd have to reverse the cutting edges on the blades too...

Sounds like a nightmare.

You're right. Need everything to turn the opposite direction. The reverser that was mentioned mounted on the back and did just that, but they are becoming hard to find.

I'm not sure what the intent of that system was for. It's the only tractor Kubota made that way, that I know of.

To boz1989:

Yes, I found a set of clock-wise blades just a bit longer. I plan to cut them short to fit a 40" brush hog.

To SidecarFlip:

That really helps. Will track them down. Appreciated!!

PS: thought you were referring to reverse direction overrunning clutches. But still very appreciated. I looked at the option of modifying an overrunning clutch already. The outer shell is directional in addition to the internals. So a mod is impossible, unless I cut off one end of it and weld it to the other side. Seems an mission impossible.

First: It's not like your going to find a 10 spline Overrunning clutch anyways, I don't think they exist.

Second: Mount / connect the overrunning clutch to the opposite end of the PTO shaft (mower side with the female end towards the gearbox), you might have to get an adapter or a different PTO shaft that has female to female ends on it (common mower PTO shaft) if not already equipped, then you'll have to get a 10 spine to 540 adapter for the tractor end.

Wolfman,

Already got the adapter to 1 3/8 6-spline.

As to placement of overrun clutch on the implement end, I thought about the same thing earlier, for a very long while. But I was finally enlightened at the end: it's lefty loosy doesn't matter which way you place it. So it won't work :).

I'll try this one more time...
You mount it on the mower side backwards from how it would normally have gone on the tractor, so the male spines are now facing the tractor, so that the free rotation is now reversed. ;)

Wolfman,

Really appreciated your help. That was exactly I was thinking for a long while.

Think about it this way: you have a bolt and nut, right tight and lefty loosy. Now you turn that bolt and nut around, it's still right tight and lefty loosy :).

Not unless you turn around along with the bolt. If you have the nut facing you, its lefty loosy righty tighty. When the bolt is facing you, it's lefty tighty, righty loosy.

WOW... You are exactly right...on paper it looks good, but putting one in my hand (used ratchet to simulate) and the motion does stay the same regardless of direction.

I was thinking of a sprag bearing / clutch you can not swap directions on those, because when you do they will reverse direction of use, but you are also changing the input output sides when you flip them, where a overrun clutch you can't do that.

I apologize for trying to lead you astray.

still not following. I'll try it with a ratchet when I get home.

Just remember the outside of the ratchet (case and handle) is the female side and either tractor side or implement side and can not be swapped.

No cheating and moving the Directional adjustment either. :p

Then shouldn't it work to just move the ratchet from the driving shaft to the driven shaft in the same orientation? My lunch hour is over I'll check this when I get home.

Thanks Wolfman! Absolutely no apology needed. You are trying to help. I got in the same trap earlier.

Bucktail, when you turn around the bolt nut, the direction would change if you grab the bolt on the other side of the nut. But in the case of an overrunning clutch, there is no way to do that.

It appears I would have to cut the stud end of an overrunning clutch and weld it on the opposite site. The internals should be symmetric and can be orientated to the other side. Only if I got a lathe......
