I have a B7100 HST-D. 800+ hours, r1 tires (not sure it makes much difference for this question).

In my local Craigslist there is a 5' bush hog and boom pole for $200 total. The hog looks the be maybe an old Ford unit. Owner says needs a universal and pto shaft.

Would the 5' be too much strain on my B7100 for occasional field grass cutting?

I don't know if the B7100 will handle a hog that big, (48" is the biggest I've seen) but I'd be all over that, even if just for resale. Out here, the boom pole alone would would be more than $200.

I am with Lil Foot, I'd be on that like white on rice - like stink on .......

5' is a little rich for the B7100 - but then again depends what cha cutting, but to sell it would be money ahead!:)

Before buying it, tip it up and see if the bottom seal is leaking. Likewise look at the drive shaft seal. Rotate the blades, make sure there isn't anything striking the sheet metal. Use your tractor to retrieve it, and you'll see if it makes the front end real light. I would guess it will pull it, but not real fast, nor in real tough, high grass. Buy it if it passes inspection, with the goal of fixing it up for trading or selling and you prolly won't lose $ with the boom pole bonus...:D:D

I have a b7100 with a 4 ft brush cutter and in my opinion 5ft would be too much not only in terms of lack of power but also the weight.
I have a lot of counter weight on the front of mine and the front wheels spend quite a bit of the time off the ground on anything other than flat land
