Joystick play on FEL

I recently bought a L2900 GST with an L480 FEL. The loader works well, but the joystick seems to have a lot of play in it. The ball will move 3 or more inches back and forth and the whole thing feels rather loosy-goosy.

I haven't driven a tractor in decades, so I'm not sure if it's supposed to be this way or not. I had the tractor in for an 800 hour PM service and the service manager said nothing of it, though I'm not sure anyone even looked at the FEL anyway.

If it's supposed to have less play, any suggestions for tightening it up?

Thanks!

I don't think there should be that much play. Check easy stuff first, like linkages where joystick attaches to pilot valves. Mine got sloppy and found a loose bolt there. Good luck.

Thanks.

I took the metal shield off and found that the bracket and pin holding the joystick were both worn. I was able to replace the pin with a barrel bolt and that took up most of the slack. I plan to do the same with the valve linkages, but need to buy a ring pliers first.

Thanks again.
