My little orange tractor, yesterday just gave one little grunt when I tried to start her. The dagum battery went belly up, no charge nothing read 12.8 volts no load turn key,,,,,,, 6.1 volts DOA ,, had to buy another Deka battery,,, and the old one was only 10 years old I cant afford it if they only last that long ;)

I always recycle the batteries that I replace on other vehicles into the tractors. If they start to test a little low, I put them on a tractor where there is less draw, and get another 3-5 years out of them. Even after that, they get installed into kids toys (those 6V electric cars etc). Ever see a 6V electric jeep with a tired 12V battery in it? - does almost 10mph. Thermal overload actually kicks in ever 5 mins to give it a cool down, and the kids love it. When a battery really is dead and gone, it brings $20+ in scrap. I noticed the junkyard that buys them also sells used batteries they pull and test from wrecked cars: $35!
