I just sold my Kubota B7800 with BL4690A backhoe and now need to put a backhoe on my L3700SU. I really prefer to buy used but even after a long period of research, I'm coming up dry and may have to buy new (I use this in my business.) I also really, really want to buy a Kubota product because, well, I'm pretty darn loyal to the orange (operating them since I was a youngster) but the pocketbook is not agreeing.

While the specs seem to me to be rather similar, the price is not. Is Kubota really able to charge more simply because of brand loyalty? I have no problem with that if they can get it, that's the free market at work. Right now, it looks like the BH80-X from Woods is winner. Is it so obvious that it's causing me to question my comparison!? :)

The Woods specs out so well. What stands out to you guys? Is the Kubota brand worth that much now, even when it comes time to sell?

The following are some key specs (each with 16" bucket, subframe mount) and installed prices here in Oklahoma City.

Digging forces, reach and resell value (the obvious subjective one) are my most important buying criteria.

Woods BH80-X - $7,425
Bucket Digging Force 3780
Dipper dig force 2480
Dig Depth 96.5
Reach 125.5
Loading height 75.25
Transport height 82.25
Stabilizer spread up 58.5
Stabilizer spread down 88.5

Kubota BH77 - $9,000
Bucket Digging Force 3421
Dipper dig force 2190
Dig Depth 91.8
Reach 124.6
Loading height 66.7
Transport height 80.7
Stabilizer spread up 51.8
Stabilizer spread down 67.6

Ansung BK976 - $7500
Bucket Digging Force 3080
Dipper dig force 2160
Dig Depth 90
Reach 112
Loading height 79
Transport height 75
Stabilizer spread up 53
Stabilizer spread down 86

I had the BH77 installed a couple months ago, July when it was dry, hot, and the ground was at its hardest for the year. I went through your same thought process and logic but in the end, the BH 77 was my choice for a few reasons.
1. Local dealer charged me $7500' (your quote of 9000 seems quite excessive to me. ).
2. Resale value has got to be better going with the Kubota name.
3. My hunch was the digging force specs were not all that different. After using the BH77 now in hard dry clay, I think that was a correct assessment. I can go through the hardest clay without much difficulty. I took out 1 good sized stump and am working on a bigger one now but rain is slowing me down.
4. I did not want to tackle the installation myself being north of 60 and the dealer quote included installation.
In the end,the BH77 is just superb. I wish you were close enough to try mine out. I know you would like it.

Thanks very much for the info, Greg, and especially the price comparison. I expected the Kubota to be higher but you're right...that's alot! To make it worse, that was the lower of the two prices I received from two different dealers. The other was $9500. Ouch!

Congrats on the new BH77! I've got several backhoe jobs lined up so I need to solve this problem sooner rather than later. Your post encourages me to reach further outside Oklahoma City and see what kind of price ranges I might find.

Watch the YouTube video:
Kubota Tractor Demo by Great Plains Kubota. It is a comparison of the 3800 to JDs equivalency but about 2/3 in compares the BH 77 with the Woods bh.you may find that of interestidid.

yeah, 9k is excessive. when I looked at a smaller L with a BH77 I was quoted 7750 with 2 pin on buckets and installation on an L3301. I was quoted 9,5k on an L4760 for the BH9 with 2 quick attach buckets and hydraulic thumb.

I was looking at backhoe for my B2920 earlier this year and the dealer told me that the comparable size Woods BH to the Kubota BH65 was actually more money than the Kubota now.

Thanks, venom and BAP.

I suppose it's reasonable to expect a lower price if it's being quoted with a new tractor??? Greg, looks like maybe you got yours in the 'aftetmarket' like I'm planning to do, correct?

I would love to get a few more prices on an installed BH77.

Sounds like the rest of you guys view the specs between the Woods BH80X and the Kubota BH77 to be a wash for the most part.

I got a few more updated quotes thanks to the other prices listed on this board. The first or ice I received for an installed bh77 was $9500. I've received 3 more since then and the new best price is $8250. That narrows the gap considerably with the Woods BH80X which was quoted at $7495. I still think the Woods specs out slightly better but the overhang looks monstrous. Plus, as an Oklahoma State AND Kubota fan, it's hard to pass up on the orange quality. My closest dealer is 7 miles away and he's the one that went from 9500 to 8500. The 8250 price comes from someone 1.5hrs away. All prices are installed on my L3700 with a 16" backhoe bucket.

Wow yes that is steep. I got a price of 7600 installed here in Maine, which seemed like a good price. I have not pulled the trigger yet for my L3200. It was nice to hear a good review on the BH77. I am curious to hear what you end up doing and maybe a review on it... either way I think they are both a top rung product. Good luck!!

I priced a Kubota BH77 2-3 months ago in NC and 7700-7800 was the range plus tax out the door. I install it. Made my Woods BH7500 look even better. I would still have the Woods as it did great had I not found a used BH77 on craigslist. Sold the woods yesterday and hoping to go pickup the BH77 tomorrow.

Sorry on the delay but your answer is no, my installed price of $7500 was a Kubota dealer. Some of them do price aggressively. Tax was added afterwards. And I traveled 1 hr up the road for that.
upgraded to a QA bucket the same time and ended up spending close to $9 k before I walked out but if you are down to a 10% difference vs the Woods, it is an easy decision for me to go with the BH77. My $0.02 at least.
I finished digging out a large pecan stump today. I will try to post a pic by the weekend. Years back I used large Case backhoes before and sure, don't expect anything similar in digging force, patience is key but the bh77 still does the job.
I will cry the day I sell it. :)

Heads up on buying used, and yes I saw a few really good deals that appeared quite legitimate. But the catch I found is with the subframe unless you are getting a unit that was installed on the same tractor. The subframe is an expensive piece, several hundreds I recall so you need to insure it matches up with your tractor or the used backhoe pricing is good enough to buy a new subframe from Kubota separately.

Gents, thank you so much for your $0.02 plus much more. I'm fortunate that I can purchase this tax-exempt since it is for my business. I've spent countless hours commercially with a three point hitch mount Kubota backhoe and it never ever one time disappointed me. It was an absolute workhorse, built like a tank and my B7800 handled it without so much as a sputter.

So, this BH77 (that I ordered yesterday by the way!) will be out the door at $8500 and the dealer is just 7 miles from me. I worked it out so they can get it installed in a day so I'll only be down the minimal amount of time. I change tractors once every couple years so I'm thinking the backhoe needs to go with me for a while regardless what tractor I use. Because of the work I do, I won't really be able to use anything much bigger than what I've got, keeping me in the approximate size range of L3900 or smaller. That's alotta dang money to spend so I hope to keep the backhoe for a long time!! Glen, post pics when you can and I'll do the same.

BTW, this is late in the game but I have a customer with a Ansung BH and I was pretty unimpressed with bolts coming loose on it (maybe dealer assembly issue?) and also parts....he broke the hydraulic fitting off the cylinder and instead of being able to buy that part like a Kubota, you have to buy the entire cylinder. JMO, I would go Woods or Kubota and not even consider Ansung based on the parts issue alone.

Very good info, Billdog. Hopefully it's not a systemic problem w the Ansung but given that there's not a lot of experience out there yet, stories will start rolling in.
