Hello,

I am new to this board, and new to Kubota. I am much more familiar with older Ford tractors. We just brought home a 1985 B8200DT with turf tires, P/S & 4WD - shows 904 hours. This came with an RCB 60-I belly mower run by an FP82-A front belt driven PTO.

The PO mentioned that he used Shell Rotella 5W-20 in the engine. My new-to-me B8200 operator's manual calls for either SAE 10W or 10W-30? I'm not familar with Rotella - which is best for warm climates? Regular or synthetic?

This will be the first diesel I have worked with, so I would appreciate your recommendations on what products and parts sources work best.

thanks,
Doug Lloyd

You MUST use diesel spec oil in the engine. Sounds like the PO has not been doing that.

I use Kubota 14W40 diesel spec oil in all of my Kubotas, and it would be appropriate for use in TN.

Any good quality 15W40 diesel spec oil will be OK but DO NOT use engine oils not intended for diesel engines.

YES what SDT said use any color you like as long as it for DIESEL motors, I use M1 and it runs fine, remember oils for gas motors are not good for diesels, There is a ton of technical reasons for that, just use anything that says diesel and you should be good to go.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will be changing all the fluids and filters possible while I have the tractor torn down for cleaning and degreasing.

thanks,
Doug

Shell Rotella comes in diesel oil ( may have only been diesel oil for some time?). That is what I use. T6 is full synthetic, T5 is blended synthetic (or how ever you state not really synthetic but just about as good)

+1. T6 is cheap enough. I use it in everything except my pressure washer pump (30 weight non detergent) and my compressors (Mobile Rarus reciprocating compressor fluid).
