It was good to see the old beast fire up. I was stunned it actually drove out. Another one saved from the land fill.
When you get it for free, you can spend a little getting it fixed up. He guessed $3500. Lets say it takes him another $3k to get the bucket and arm tightened up by some machine shop magic. $6000 or $7000 for a functioning mid-sized excavator is a steal. The only problem is transporting the beast as it requires a semi-and low boy trailer.
The tracks look like they might be pretty well gone too. Not sure if they are cheaper to simply replace. Some sheet metal, paint, and a new seat and the cab would be very serviceable.
