It went bad and I can't find a replacement. I'm hoping someone can help me. The Internet has not been fruitful. eBay searches pull nothing or the wrong thing. Parts dealers can't find it. Maybe someone here knows a guy who knows a guy? I need the solenoid for this starter, barring that I need a whole new starter compatible with this tractor.
My specs: L200 Serial: 17927
Engine: Z1100 21hp diesel
Starter: Denso 28000-097-1 12volt 11-tooth
Solenoid: Denso 053400-0440
Here's a pic of the solenoid:

When you say it went bad.....you placed an OHM meter on it and tested? It seems that you can get inside it - have you? Inside there is a simple magnetic coil - just curious if moisture got in there and possibly knocked out some conductivity!

My neighbor, an honest old man who is a backyard mechanic did the diagnosis and said it was the solenoid needing replacement. The starter had undergone a rebuild once before I purchased it. You're the first to suggest it could be repaired. Everyone else says it can't be done. I'll take your word for it and give it a try.

And he might be correct, but an electromagnetic solenoid is a simple "speaker" ........apply current, magnetic field pushes or pulls a iron rod in the case. IF THE COIL is bad......well, it is bad - if like we said, the innards are a little crusty:), you can polish them.....and then test:)

the contact points could be shot to hell too - prob cant fix them or replace them, but worth looking at.

this is what inside looks like ....more/less

I checked the Kubota parts site and that's the part number given. If you have the original starter it will probably be the right one. I have bought after market starters for not a great deal more.

Y'all have been real helpful. I really appreciate all the info. I'll try cleaning it up first when I get home and if it's too far gone I'll order that part.

Could y'all tell me if Coleman has a starter drive for this and what part number to order? See photo. I can't figure out how to pull up a full version of that parts diagram. There's a 3digit number on mine that reads 042.

Thanks, wolfman. I was able to order it. And thanks, rentthis for the solenoid PN. I ordered that too. I had seen that starter on eBay but it didn't look to be interchangeable with mine. I had found another new starter made by rareelectrical which is interchangeable, but the price hurts. Hopefully these parts do the trick. If not, I guess I'll have to deal with the starter price.

Trick question?

Remove the bolts and pull it apart, there ain't much more to it.

What are you trying to do?
