My best friends brother, Tom had parked his 2005 Saab early this Spring.
It would not stay running and the shop quoted home anywhere $1000-$4000 to diagnose, and fix the problem.
Being the nice guy I am I offered to repair it.
After some trouble shooting I diagnosed a faulty cam shaft position sensor.
$80 and an hour later part was in and the car ran fine.

Fast forward 4 weeks....

I pull up to Steve's (best friend) house and noticed smoke pouring out of a car, Toms car!!
He stepped inside for 3 minutes and that's all it took for his car to catch fire.
I'm confident that it was no fault of mine.
I'd venture a guess that a mouse built a nest as the car sat for 7 months.

The good news is that Tom does not hold me responsible and that he was not driving when this happened.

Just trying to help a brother out.....darn.

A friend of mine had one of those. After crossing some high water the car made a noise but nothing more. When they got home the car burned to the ground in the drive way.
I have worked on those plenty. That is why I don't ever intend to buy one. :D

Man that's unfortunate, my brother owned a business specializing in foreign car service in the 70's and 80's and I swear if he replaced brake pads and the transmission went out the following week, some people would drag it back in and expect him to fix it as it was fine until he worked on it. It's great your friend knows better.

It sound like a known problem, but we had my wife's car serviced last month and they found mouse nests and some chewed up cab filters and I found a mouse nest in one of my tractors last week, so we are going to have to do something.

Try Decon, it is cheaper than vehicles to control mice. :D
