Changing my left axle pivot seal as soon as they arrive from Messicks. I plan to replace my fresh UTD oil in the front case with 80w-90 as the books also calls for. Anyone else using gear oil?

Thanks for the reply***8217;s.

I changed out the seals today. Very easy job taking around 45 minutes.

I did take note that the book calls for 5qts of gear oil while 4 Qts gets the level to the top mark after all the air is out. Just like the engine oil, the book is about a qt off.

The ONLY reason to use 89W90 gear oil in the front axle is because it’s less expensive than the UDT Kubota fluid.
But think about this: Kubota does not “specify” or “recommend” gear oil in the front axle.... they “allow” it.
MOST of us have expressed a desire to do what’s “Best” for our equipment as evidenced by the number of posts asking for such recommendations. This one included.
If Kubota hyd fluids were installed at the factory in the front axle...and if Kubota hyd fluids are the ONLY ones recommended in the transmissions (where they certainly receive much more abuse and wear/tear than the front axle)... then WHY would an owner who is interested ONLY in what is BEST for his Kubota... use a general purpose gear oil such as 80W90?
I use Kubota fluids EVERYWHERE in my Kubota, just like the factory did.

The Service and Operators manuals for the BX series list the proper fluids for the front axle as either "KUBOTA SUPER UDT fluid or SAE80, SAE90 gear oil."
80/90 is much less apt to leak over time than Super UDT 2.

Also, 80/90 would work just as well as Super UDT 2 in the transmission of a unit that is gear drive and has a separate hydraulic reservoir. BX series is neither.

The final drives on SVL & SSV units call for 90w with no option for using a trans-hydraulic fluid. I wonder why??

My owners manual does list super UDT or 80w90 gear oil. The gear oil I used was Synthetic Mobil 1 which was more expensive than the UDT oil. I wasnt looking at cost savings. I just dont want to have leaks.
With only 220 hours on my unit Ive had the driveshaft seal and the axle seal leak the super UDT oil. Time will tell if the 75w90 is less prone to leak.

80 90 GL4-5 for me always. Better shock load capabilities.
