I'm looking at a County line 4' rotary tiller from tractor supply for my BX23S. It's labeled as 25-50hp, and all the comments online about using it on a 23hp tractor are referred off to SKU 2122654....which according to the internet doesn't exist in the tractor supply system. Anyone have thoughts or input?

I bought the same tiller for my BX2380 this summer. Works great! Had to hang 300 pounds of front weights to be able to steer...tiller is quite heavy.

he should have a loader...all BX23S have loader and backhoe, least up here they do...

any 4' tiller would work fine, slow and steady wins..it's NOT a race !

Not certain how implement manufacturers rate their equipment, but keep in mind the BX23S has 23.0 gross HP, but only 17.7 HP makes it to the PTO.

So if the equipment manufacture is referring to PTO HP and the operator is referencing Gross HP, the operator's expectations might not be met.

The 25-50hp model? Do you have a front end loader on your tractor?

Yes, it is what their ad says is for 25-50 HP. No I don't have the FEL.

Same tractor as yours just without the hoe and loader.

HP needed depends on ground being tilled. Cutting up sod needs 60+HP even then it can be 'interesting'... For 2 decades I used a '74 Ford LGT125 running a 36" tiller. Maybe 8HP out of the oil burning Kohler BUT it always tilled GREAT.

If an Implement is PTO powered then it's PTO rated.
If an Implement is simply ground engaging then it's engine rated. ;)

Thanks!

I wasn't certain if a standard existed. Not certain many folks even considered the derated PTO HP when selecting driven implements.

My brother bought one of those and hooked it behind his B7500. His had a loader and it was still light in the front end. Tractor just barely had enough power to run it but didn't have enough traction so had to be in 4wd all the time. In 2wd after the tiller bit in the tractor would just sit and spin.

Very well built, or at least they used to be. If you get one be sure to double check the main and side gearboxes no matter what they tell you. Both were dry on my brother's and he was told they were filled.

My L2501 did great with a 5 ft tiller. 19 hp / 5 ft compared 17.7 hp / 4 ft. that is 3.8 hp/ft vs. 4.425 hp/ft. That translates into it should work OK.

I wasn't trying to make a point that it would or wouldn't work, just to be careful to consider the actual HP available to the implement.

Nothing like experience and data to help make a sound decision. Enjoy the tiller!!!

I have a tractor supply 6 footer that has been great for 10 years-Its actually a King Kutter with the yellow paint, The ones I saw at tractor supply this weekend had plastic end caps that said made in China. May look close at things that are in contact with moving dirt. With the soil you and I have it will be fine and wont use a lot of horsepower. But it is a heavy implement so a counter weight may be necessary.

Nothing against Ea but there is no such thing as free shipping. If your shipping free you have to pad the retail to cover shipping. Shipping a 500 lb implement a 1000 mile isn't cheap. King Kutter is a fairly common brand. Our local Orscheln FarmStore had the tiller NIiW suggested for $1361 on sale

True. I haven't dug too deep to find a KK dealer in my area, just looked at their online price & shipping. I'll look more into that.

rokhunter,

Because a good friend has one behind his BX2370, I too looked at the XB series by King Kutter before buying the Countyline (which is made by Tarter) .

I decided on the Countyline because it is quick hitch compatible (XB isn't), Countyline weighs 100+ more pounds than the XB (with our clay soil, weight is your friend), and the Gearboxes on the Countyline are rated for higher HP meaning stronger.

I saw the post that said they didn't have the traction on their small tractor to pull the Countyline??? Not sure what to think here because I can literally put my BX in neutral and the tiller will provide the forward movement. I'll even tap the brake to slow down.

Again, both are great units...boils down to preference.
