If it's anything like my 7.3 Navistar diesel in my pickup, replacing the sensor cures the issue. CPS sensors are nothing more than a simple Hall Effect sensor that senses a magnetic field, usually a magnet is placed on a rotating piece (crankshaft) and the sensor controls injection timing. Mine are cheap (20 bucks) your may be expensive.
