Front axle tilt stops; how should they be set?

I was changing the front axle oil and noticed the bolts that limit the front axle tilt are not set the same on each side. I hadn’t noticed it while operating and believe they have been like this a long time. Maybe I am OCD but it seems they should be set equally. So do I move one up or the other down?

Interesting. No stop bolts on either of mine, just cast in bosses that contact the frame rails and maximum roll. I know they do as I have some rust stains on the frame rails.

Rock'in and roll'in....

When I rebuilt my front axle, I found (after power washing 35+years of dirt, grease, & grime) that I only had the stop bolt on one side. I replaced the missing bolt & nut, and adjusted as above.
But it made me wonder how necessary they really are; mine had obviously run for decades without it. Food for thought.

Thanks for the guidance. I will adjust to 25mm on each side.

Lencho - I would just set them at 1”...just poking fun...I’m still getting used to the metric system...the bolt/nut thread pitches confuse me a lot!! [emoji2957]

It does seem a bit silly to try for precision to the ten thousandths of an inch for a tractor axle stop bolt! 1" is less than 1/2 a millimeter fat, so make it 1" then back 1/2 a turn and you'll be damn close to spec.

I agree this adjustment does not need great precision. I have about an inch more tilt to the left now and never noticed! Maybe it was set custom for driving across a slope - one way only?;)
