Hi everyone, i am working on a L2900 with a glide shift transmission and the drum for the hydraulic clutch let go. From what i have found in the parts book is i need part number TA040-500 (early serial number) and that number subs to TA040-61507. I just want to verify this before i order the wrong one. And is this clutch drum more durable then the stock one or am i going to have the same problem down the road. Thanks in advance

It's not very common for this model to have the Hydraulic clutch let go, so I think you just had bad luck.

The newer part number TA040-61550 might be a better design, don't know.

You will need a new snap ring as that is commonly the real part that lets go.

TA040-61720

I would also replace all the seals in the clutch too.

Thanks for the reply. My clutch piston is broke and plates are tore up, so i want to get the whole assembly. The complete assembly for my serial number would be TA040-61500 and from what i can figure that number changes to 61507. My dealer was not sure either so i thought i would ask on here. Thanks

yeah the original is known to break, did many of them back in the day (when they were still somewhat "new" at the time).

New part number is more robust; you'll see it when you get it. Be sure to get the snap ring too, assuming you didn't get the entire clutch assembly which would come with new ring. The plier you need for the snap ring is pretty stout in itself. I might still have my old set in the toolbox and haven't used it in like forever, not saying I won't need it tomorrow though. Never know, which is why I still keep it.

I finally got my clutch pack, now a new problem. The new drum is reinforced (thicker) where the snap ring goes but now it hits the rail for the shuttle shift. Did they also want you to change the shift shaft? Do i just machine an area so it will clear? I am getting irritated with this thing. Thanks for the help.
