Hey all, total newbie here so please forgive my ignorance. Dealer quoted me 540.00 price to replace rear axle seal on 2003 L3830 GST. How involved is it, book calls for 4 hrs, also if they do it should I have them replace the bearing also? Thanks to any and all that might could help...

I'd consider replacing the bearing while it is disassembled, but that is just me...

The bearing might be bad causing the leak. Too much axle movement allowing the lip seal to lose contact with the axle.

I don't know what book that info from, but Kubota calls for 4.5 on ROPS tractors; 7.0-9.3 on other GL30 series (probably cabin type). Ive done one recently; you gotta work fast to get it done in 4.

Yes replace the bearing too.

I would question the 4 hour estimated time. And....also, I'd suggest questioning how accurate their estimate is. An estimate is just that, a guess. How accurate is their guess.

Thanks Lugbolt, did you need any special tools to do the job, I'm seriously thinking of doing it myself, would you know where I can find info on the procedure?
