I own a 1979 L305 (#0034) 2WD. The front wheel spindle seems to have been wallered out over time and there's a ton of play in the steering. The previous owner put steel shims in beside the top of the spindle to stabilize it a little.
I'm going to try and replace the spindle. I have purchased some parts, but since I've never done this before I thought I would ask for some advice before it becomes a two week job waiting for parts I didn't foresee needing.
Anyone done one of these before? I measured the good side with a caliper and it's at dang-on 25mm. The bad side is a little less ~23.5mm so I'm hopeful the cast axle isn't wallered and it's just this part. Fingers crossed.
