I went back over the posts and found that this is just a 1.5 HP motor so the easy, simple, cheap solution is to just buy a 120/240 volt 1 1/2 HP single phase motor. Even top of the line TEFC ( Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled) ones are about $250 Canucks. That size, south of the 49th will be cheaper, maybe $100 USD for a used one. Heck buy an 'used/abused' air compressor at yardsale for $50, if it has the same speed ! I've got 2 on the shelf here, too bad you weren't next door.
The thing is , these motors are COMMON, 'dime a dozen'.
The problem with buying the phase convertor is cost and install. $90 + taxes, shipping, etc... AND you do NOT KNOW if the 3 phase motor IS good ! If it's bad, you just blew $100 + time for nothing.
What we don't know is the motor style ( frame #), ie HOW it's connected to the machine. It could be as simple as 4 bolts and pulley install....
Even though I have 3 phase 'at the pole', until I need 10HP motors, I run everything on 240, single phase.

And the motor starter in your images is a good one. One of those bulletproof NEMA ones that will last forever.

looks to me something like below would be my best cost effective route?

https://www.amazon.com/Phase-Conver...P06CGCSJXBG&psc=1&refRID=DYN6W7E1HP06CGCSJXBG
To address your question, yes, that is the sort of thing you would need and the listed specifications seem to suit your motor.

However, I would be concerned about the very low price and the fact that it does not appear to have any certification marks in any of the pictures or the description -- one of CSA, UL, FM, ESA, TUV, etc. etc. must be marked on the device to make it legal for sale in my jurisdiction, and I believe any North American jurisdiction too.

The certification mark is a claim by the manufacturer that samples of the device have been tested and shown to meet the safety requirements of the respective agency. The agency charges a fee for the right to apply the mark, so it adds a cost to the item. If they cheaped out on the certification, what else did they cheap out on?

I agree, that amazon one looks like it might be bottom end. The writing on it is Chinese too. I would think a better unit made for the American market at would least have a sticker in english. My 3 hp well pump inverter was several thousand, it also has some motor controller stuff in it, but most of the stuff in the box is the 1-3 phase stuff.

IIRC, when I was wiring in my 3ph hoist, my electrician buddy told me it is easy. Either a) it works, b) doesn't work or c) runs backward. If b or c, switch any two wires and try again. If it still doesn't work, switch any other two wires. I think I lucked out and it worked the first time.

Your trying to run a 2 amp 3 Phase 440 volt system, off of single phase 220 Volt single phase.

You'll need a MUCH larger phase converter as to achieve the 1.5 HP.

It's going to be extremely cost ineffective and inefficient.

By the time you buy the right components to run it, you would have been far better off just buying a different motor.

A good 2 HP 120/240 motor is about $100.

A 220 single phase to 3 phase convertor, good for 2KW is about $300 up here, $100 motor is a steal AND it'll work.
My concern is you don't KNOW if that motor IS good !
Even IF you can get the proper part for $100..arrrrrgh.... when you learn the motor his burned out !! THEN you've got to buy the $100 motor anyway....

is this not set up as a 220v not 440v?? aka thought it was either 220 or 440v... user choice by how the wire it?

been looking at new motors for 110v and so far its around 150$ to 400

Used compressor motors... possilble. some not so bad prices out there... I'll need to pull apart and check shaft size.

220VAC single phase is not the same as 220VAC three phase, they do not convert directly.

Just by the plug it's set up as 440 VAC three phase, if it was 220 VAC three phase it would have a different plug.

I run all of my big equipment on twist lock plugs, different voltage / amperage plugs will not fit into other outlets, IE a 440 VAC plug will not fit into a 220 VAC outlet.
So with it having a 440 VAC plug on it it very likely was not setup to run on 220 VAC.
