    Smoothing half-finished gravel driveway

Yikes! I'm no stranger to trailers, but I am pretty new to loading and unloading them with tractors (most of my experience has been boat trailers). That's a good lesson in what not to do.

    Smoothing half-finished gravel driveway

They better have removed the topsoil! I lived 100 miles away while they were building, so I didn't get to inspect their work very often but the scope we discussed was removal of topsoil, fabric, then a solid base ~2ft of 4in crusher run compacted with the excavator. If I find out there's topsoil...

    Smoothing half-finished gravel driveway

I know the excavator who built the road last year did not properly compact it. He thought his 55,000lb excavator would be plenty but didn't understand that spreading the weight out over the huge tracks eliminated any compacting ability it would have had. Unfortunately I didn't push him on it...

    Smoothing half-finished gravel driveway

There is nothing on top of the base yet, so I'd be leveling the 4in crusher run base. Frost isn't gone yet, but for the past few weeks it has been warm enough during the day that the top couple inches thaw and the water has nowhere to drain. It's extra-messy this year. Now we're getting a foot...

    Smoothing half-finished gravel driveway

I am building a house, so my driveway (1000ft long) is half-finished. Until construction equipment is done coming in and out it just has 4in crusher-run gravel. This spring some ruts are developing that I will need to smooth out once things dry. I just picked up a two-blade land leveler, but...

Replacing front tire - need to do the pair?

The tractor is from 2010, so that's the oldest the tire could be. I actually haven't looked at the date stamp on the tire.

Replacing front tire - need to do the pair?

There is definitely a visual difference between the two, but it's more that the older tire has more rounded treads and the new one still has the nice squred-off tread lugs. I could probably measure the tread depth, I do have a gauge for that. Next time I'm at the compound I'll give that a look.

Replacing front tire - need to do the pair?

Perfect, thanks! I didn't think it would matter on an open diff on a tractor used off-road but figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

Replacing front tire - need to do the pair?

The tractor I bought last fall has a brand new tire on the front right, but has an older tire on the left. The seller told me I should really buy a new tire for the left so they match and don't wear out the diff. I know that is a thing on road cars, but I just use this tractor on gravel and in...

How does the seat sensor work?

That's a handy diagram, is there a service manual or something available I can download?

How does the seat sensor work?

The seat sensor in my L3240 has recently started acting up, and I'm not sure where to start looking for the issue. I don't see anything super obvious on the under side of the seat. The one switch I can see just detects when the seat is flipped forward for PTO operation without an operator. When...

Snowblower on Gravel - Skid shoe question

As far as I can tell, the specs for the single-auger and double-auger versions are exactly the same, so I think it's effectively an S7 which calls for 40-70hp. For how much snow we actually get in this area, I should be fine if I just take it a bit slow. I was shopping for a decent deal on a...

Snowblower on Gravel - Skid shoe question

I did some google image searching, and I think this blower is a Lucknow D7 with the top auger removed. That makes it somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000lbs.

Snowblower on Gravel - Skid shoe question

I just picked up a VERY heavy 7ft snowblower for my L3240. I'm new to the CUT world, but have been snow blowing for years so I am looking for some advice on sizing things up for this tractor. I'm not sure exactly what this thing weighs, but it's enough that I can barely lift it on a pallet with...

    Tire chain question.

Do you leave the studs in all summer too? Are there any down-sides? I haven't had my tractor through a winter yet but I assume I will need more traction for snow blowing than my R4s will provide without chains or studs.

Keeping snow and rain off the seat?

I have to store my tractor outside for a while, but it is always frustrating to go use it first thing in the morning or after some wet weather because the seat is wet. The previous owner put a nice durable canvas seat cover on, but I can't just wipe water off with a towel. How do you guys...

    Fuel Gauge Reading Changes Rapidly

I just picked up a 2010 L3240HST last night, and got to use it a bit this afternoon. I noticed the fuel gauge acting weird and am wondering if that is normal or if I need to fix something. I filled the tank up on the way home, so it was full when I started today. Within 10 minutes of running...
