D950 one cylinder white smoke on start-up

Ok. Thanks for your help. I'll report back once I've done some further checks

D950 one cylinder white smoke on start-up

Ok. Yes I took the manifold off so I could see what was going on. You don't think it's oil/valve stem seals then ?

D950 one cylinder white smoke on start-up

Not very long. Maybe a couple of hours. I did hone the cylinders

D950 one cylinder white smoke on start-up

Thanks Wolfman. I've not had the injectors properly tested, but I did try a new injector from a good source in the UK that didn't fix the issue. HOWEVER.. It does have a bit of blow by and I did change the valve stem seals. Could this by my issue? Have I misdiagnosed fuel for oil .

D950 one cylinder white smoke on start-up

Alas I couldn't possibly do that :-( My inquisitive mind won't let me rest until I understand what's going on. Bedside's I enjoy troubleshooting. It's a great way to learn!

D950 one cylinder white smoke on start-up

Well it's not the glow plug. It tested fine and cylinder 2 is still smoking after I swapped them around. Here's a little more background information. Prior to replacing the rings and bearings the engine was always hard to start. I bought a cheap compression tester and all 3 cylinders were...

D950 one cylinder white smoke on start-up

When I had the injectors out I did check the glow plugs and they all quickly went red hot when I switched them on. But I haven't swapped them around so I will give that a try.

D950 one cylinder white smoke on start-up

I did a part rebuild of my d950 (rings and rod bearings) and she smokes like hell and misfires from one cylinder (no 2) at start-up. After about a minute or so the smoke stops and it runs fine. I know the smoke is unburnt fuel. So I'm thinking it's either compression, the injector or valve...

D1105 air in fuel lines (Youtube video). Help Please

Yes that's right. Part 12 in the attached diagram. So easy to fix but an absolute bugger to diagnose!

D1105 air in fuel lines (Youtube video). Help Please

Well i fixed it! It was caused by a faulty injector delivery valve. Full details here

D1105 air in fuel lines (Youtube video). Help Please

I might give that a go as it sounds straightforward enough. Although I'm not sure if it will prove anything as I expect to see air coming from the pump and hence a mix of air and fuel still getting sent to the injectors. I may even go back to the mechanical lift pump to rule out a pressure...

D1105 air in fuel lines (Youtube video). Help Please

Thanks, I'm also thinking it might be the injection pump. I do have another d1105 on a working machine so I might swap them and see if the problem persists. Could air be coming down the injection line from a bad injector perhaps?

D1105 air in fuel lines (Youtube video). Help Please

It's only on there so I can see what's going on.

Thanks for taking time to reply. I've checked most of what you have suggested already, hence I recorded the video to see if anybody has any further ideas. Did you view the video?

D1105 air in fuel lines (Youtube video). Help Please

Hi I previously posted a thread about an odd problem I have with air bubbles in the fuel line which either prevents my engine from starting, or makes it quit a few seconds after running. I've now got round making a video which demonstrates the problem. The machine has been sat in the garage...

Another bubbles in the fuel line thread

Thanks for all the comments. Still no joy. I'll probably upload a video and see if anyone can spot something.

Another bubbles in the fuel line thread

Generally white smoke and I think one of the cylinders is catching. Don't think the rack is stuck. I've had the fuel lines off the pump and can see them shooting fuel

Another bubbles in the fuel line thread

Hi I could do with some advice in identifying a fuel issue with an old d1105 3 cylinder that I’m trying to resurrect. The engine won’t start and at present I’m seeing lots of air in the overflow pipe that connects the injection pump to the injector overflow line. Whilst I’m cranking the engine...

Thanks for the update. I think I'll focus my attentions on the injectors as everything else checks out ok.

Did you manage to sort this problem? I have a similar issue with lots of air bubbles coming from the injector pump overflow line.
