    L48

Saw 2012 L48, 256hrs, $35K, Gainesville Ga on market place. Not sure about the year as M59 started about 2008. Great piece of old iron, little plastic and pre emission.

    Some days the Dragon wins.

Been nice spring like weather for several days and really catching up on some outdoor projects including some that included clearing trees. Rain expected to start in a few hours so time to deal with a big stump from a large oak that fell last spring beside an animal shed. Have worked off and on...

Trailer stake pocket spare tire carrier ideas?

Want to make a spare tire carrier that will fit the stake pockets of any flatbed trailer. Support 16”, 10-14ply spare. Position either inboard with tire on deck or outboard. Bolt or clamp with lugnut size fastener to not rattle or easy to steal. Store bought types look too flimsy. Scrap pile...

    LIPS (Loader Implement Position System)

Added LIPS plates to the pallet fork frame to help align attachment. 2”x7” scrap cut offs. The bigger the tractor, the harder to see sometimes. Some implement’s frames give very little clearance and are especially hard to mate on uneven ground. My 30year old grapple was especially hard...

    Old dog, new trick

Friend removing stumps over and around buried utility lines showed me the advantage of a grading or toothless backhoe bucket. Lot less risk of hooking or damaging buried lines. The QA buckets for the B26 have bolt on teeth so it was easy to remove three from the 12” bucket. Yesterday repaired...

    Utility bucket

Got another leak. 80 year old black iron pipe crosses under the driveway in a half mile line. Of course happens in the worst time. Studying bucket designs especially for working around utilities. Unbolted the teeth from the 12” B26 bucket. Has a flat cutting bar. Hope less chance of hooking...

    New paint

Painted the 25 year old Brown tree cutter. Years of use and stored outside with clippings had serious pitting rust. Drilled a drain hole, used a rust converter primer and top coated with Rustoleum safety red spray can paint. Mowed the once a year cut to the fallow pastures with the cutter...

    Danuser Intimdator modification

When Danuser fist came out with their tree puller design I thought it could me very useful. Grow trees like weeds on our mostly wooded farm. The tines lock together with a tab and pocket for excavating. Problem is that pocket can get packed with dirt, gravel and wood enough to keep the tines...

    Exhaust repair

Had a sneaky limb push up my tailpipe while pilling up brush. A support strut ripped about a quarter size hole where it was welded in the tube. Bought a $10, SS 2” band exhaust clamp. Welded a tab on the strut to match the bolt holes. Made for a sturdy repair.

    Brown tree cutter

Anyone using a 3pt Brown tree cutter? Picked up a 5’ to use with the M59. Will use an overrunning pto clutch because of massive inertia of the cutter disk.

    B26 outrigger MEGA pads

Making bigger pads for the B26 backhoe. Bought used and came with the optional rubber pads. Never had rubber pads before a surprised how well they gripped and extra height, 2.7”. Still would sink on soft ground. OEM pads 10”X10”. MEGA pads 18”X16”. Rubber and steel cleats. 3”x3” angle and 2”...

    Disk Harrow

Saying goodbye to our 6’ disk. Known it for 50 years of its approximate 60 year life. Greased it one last time. No more hay or livestock in my future. $800. See similar for $200-$2500. Farmers COOP used to carry every part. Rocky ground hard on the pans. If I remember right replacement pans were...

    B26 backhoe Outrigger cylinder guard.

Liked the guards on the M59. Protects against rocks and inadvertent bucket strikes. Added steps that really helped climbing up and down. M59 outrigger Used 5” x 17” long square tubing cutting in half long ways. 1.5” and 2” flatbar for slides. One of four steps. Cylinder perches that will...

    Old man and a tree

Had this red oak fall this week. Jacked up the corner of the steer/goat shed about 4’. Tree trunk 34” diameter, 120’+ tall. While I have over 50 years of experience dealing with trees, cutting up has risks. Age like gravity that brought this tree down wins in the end. New tool and technique...

    Rear finish mower spindles.

Have tried many types of mowers on our hillybilly farm. Rear finish mower does the best. Problem is wear and bending of the wheel spindle shafts. Compact 4x4 tractor with tight turning adds to the problem. To trim there is lots of back and forth always rotating the mowers spindle. Liberal...

    Thumb pedal update

The stock foot pedal for thumb control was always awkward for me. Small and slippery since excavation usually involves mud. Big feet, age and poor dance abilities in need of solution. First added cleated pedal extensions. Simply cut from 2x5” rectangle tubing. This gave height, length, width...

    B26 backhoe ripper option

Really blessed to have the B26 TLB with all three QA buckets. This size machine has been the best for repairing and maintaining the >mile of underground utility lines on the farm. For seven years looked for a ripper for the backhoe. Never seen one that wasn’t owner custom made. Never seen the...
