Why is a gripple called a grapple?

Thanks to Hagrid in another thread...I wonder why a grapple is not a gripple? Gripple seems more descriptive and intuitively correct... Gripper maybe even more so... For example, a similar device for an excavator is called a thumb. Seems like gripple would be appropriate in either case...

    We all need to beware...

,,,Of what we read on the news and internet: From the Japanese NHK website: Misleading or false information surrounding Monday's earthquake in Ishikawa Prefecture, central Japan, has gone viral on social media. Some posts claim the quake was artificially generated. Who out there can generate...

Another thread I just read struck home...

Do you have any funny stories you cannot share because you fear someone who knows you might discover them? Here's mine: (________________________________________________________________) I actually do have one....but I guess I am shooting for the Guinness world record for the first documented...

    How about you?

I was born in my Grandmother's bedroom. Was just after WW2, apparently no beds available for normal deliveries... How about you? Anything interesting in your life? Mine is only possibly interesting because times have changed somewhat...maybe not interesting at all really...interesting to me...

    Anybody have a PITA?

Just curious...I know I have some...probably the main one right now is... ...calling a vendor to ask a question, and after fighting my way through an automated system that has no intelligence, I finally end up with a person that speaks English as a third language... ...and I can't understand them!

    This is a nice place...

I just thought about how much I like OTT. Just a nice place with almost everyone being honest and polite AND positive. AND HELPFUL. I am sure I could say more positive things...but expressing myself in ways others could understand was never of much interest to me. Anyway...nice interacting...

    Favorite Forum/thread

You know for the longest time, I never stopped by the Off Topic forum at all. But now I have to admit, the Daily Chuckle thread is the first place I stop at when visiting OTT. Just an admission of guilt I suppose...it is a fun place though... (y) Service, Repair and Maintenance takes second...

    Deed Question regarding survey description

I happened to look at the deed description for a piece of property I have that is one of three that are contiguous, and on one deed now. But they have separate lot and block numbers for tax purposes, since they were originally bought as individual properties adjoining our original piece. I for...

Could the USA claim the moon?

I know this is totally off the wall probably, but it is something I have often wondered about over the years...once in a while...not that often. I remember that if countries were the first to set foot on land somewhere, and planted a flag, they could claim that land as their own. I think that...

My investment in organic vegetation killer

I have never been whenever you call the people that are interested in organic food and that kind of thing. But I took an interest in organic vegetation killer, and I’ve done my best to make an investment to supply a lot of it to the edge of my back porch deck. I’m happy to report after a...

The IRS and I finally agree on something!

I just noticed that, for the purpose of calculating the required minimum distribution taken from my IRA, that the IRS expects me to live to be 100! That’s what I always expected too! Man do I hope their projections are accurate! Or even better, that they underestimate!!!

Covid tests some kind of scam?

We used one test during the whole Covid period. And over the last three years we probably received at least 56 tests. Actually probably more. At no cost to us but somebody is paying. Over the last six or eight weeks we received 24 more tests. We have not asked for these tests. Medicare pays for...

    BX Steering Cylinder Question

My BX2200 has never been perfect from day one when I purchased it new. It always wanted to drift a bit when mowing in a straight line. Noticeable over a 100 foot stretch for sure. From when new. Now after 20 years it has gotten progressively worse. I think occasionally I have to turn the...

    What’s the purpose of life?

Sorry, just joking. Moment of weakness here. Turned into a pretty nice day though! Peace! (That sounds so anchiet though doesn’t it?) I WOKE up this morning but never could figure out what WOKE means…except in the morning! Poor me I guess…LOL edit: Now if I could just figure out...

You might have a Kubota tractor, but…

    …I have a Kabota vacuum! 😂🤣😂

    Who would have guessed…

…That Kubota Mx tractor are gender neutral? “The gender-neutral Mx. (pronounced miks or muhks) appeared in print as early as the late ’70s. It was originally devised as a title for people who didn’t want to be identified by gender…” And ( I assume) moved on to cover tractors as well. Learn...

    Hitchhikers?

I seem to be full of off topic ideas. For some reason when I was driving down to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription today, I saw a guy at the side of the road fixing his shoe or something, and it made me remember the old days when you saw many hitchhikers all the time everywhere. I was one...

Who else keeps getting covid tests they did not ask for?

We have received I think 32 covid self tests we did not ask for over the last 8 weeks. (In the past we did ask for free tests at one point.) Anybody else in the same boat? Just feels like the government over bought and they want someone else to dispose of the excess...

    Decided no ponytail here! LOL

Well, I see that other thread is locked. I just wanted to post a conclusion, since I started that thread. A couple days ago, I took the hair brush, and brushed the hair back like it would be with a pony tail. I have enough that I could tie it up in the back into maybe a small pig tail...
