Here's what I do with chains; air down the tires a couple of pounds, mount your chains, air up the tires to snug the chains. Easy, no tensioners needed.

And now the end of the story.... The tech shows up, pulls the shaft off, gives the collar a couple of twists, and pops the damn thing right on the pto. He says, new stuff, paint etc., just needs to break in. What I think is that my cleaning, lubing, and sitting over night must have loosened...

I removed the PTO end of the mower deck shaft and cleaned and lubed the heck out of it thinking yeah, maybe it was just gunked up. That's when I found out the collar doesn't really even pull back, yet alone stay back on its own.

The dealer is sending a tech over, maybe today, they are of course busy. The mower was tested before it was delivered; no problems. But earlier this year I had an issue with a flow diverter on the snowblower which also worked fine until I tried using it. I still think the coupler on the shaft...

I know that the slip joint goes together only one way...I did not know that the pto end is the same deal. But if the collar does not pull back at all, I guess all bets are off.

Update and last entry. The tech just left. He replaced the whole unit; the thing was defective and how it ever worked at all is a mystery. The original unit was installed at the dealer, and a function check showed that it worked just fine. It wasn't until I put it to work did it fail...
