I would try security PET plastic window film. It's cheap, easy and a do it yourself afternoon job. The stuff I use is supposed to protect against hammer attacks by making glass 15x stronger than without the film added.

I wouldn't rush to service it. I would wait another year. 10 hrs/1 yr old.... there are dozens of machines sitting on my dealers lot, new and waiting for their first owner, with more age and hours and they will never make a service on these machines.
