How is everyone using their diesel supply at the end of the world?

If they ever lift the burn ban where I am.....I'll be using 8-10 gallons to help light all the brush piles have sitting around.

I ran and filled my cans yesterday, also reminded everyone in line with theirs that the sky is falling
waiting for the burn ban lift here too!!

You can stretch the diesel by mixing 50/50 with gasoline, also throw in some used motor oil. That’s what we foresters use for pile burning.

More worried about the house heat as fuel oil is the main source. totally full right now should bring me through most of a cold winter but no reserve. I can currently store ~50 gallons, wondering if I should fill up more stores ~100 gallon reserve now?
I would store about 50% more than you will need to get through the winter because you never know what it going to happen later on. If the price drops, you have lost some money, but you have the luxury of knowing that you will be warm. If the price skyrockets upward, then you have saved some money. I only use diesel for my tractor and my generator. Neither one uses a lot of fuel, but I will try to keep both filled to the top just in case I need them.

Just filled up my 100 gal transfer tank...nothing to do with current supply...its the normal time of year I fill it up before the winter so I have fuel for all of the snow removal!
I had to go to 3 different stations...no I dont use off road because I usually fill up the truck with what is left in the Spring so I get fresh fuel going into the thaw.
Keep in mind normal supply is about 32 days. So 25 is a bit lower but lets not make a huge deal of it.
The reason for the shortage this Fall is that:
1. A few refineries have closed in the past few years in the US, with no replacement.
2. The US banned import of Russian distillates when the war in Ukraine started (700,000 barrels a day), and did nothing to immediately replace it.
Industry analysts expect it to be short until next Summer at least. The only saving grace (LOL) would be a recession that reduces the demand considerably. Gotta love the government!

Can't help but wonder if we would complain less, if fuel prices were held artificially low by government decree, like was done in the past in this country. At that time we had to wait in line for hours (felt like hours anyway) to buy our allotment. There was also even and odd days for fuel purchases, dependent on you plate number.
Myself, I will take higher prices and no need to wait more than a few minutes in line...

I got fuel today. Funny thing is all of the stations I passed seemed to have both on-road and off-road diesel.
So next project is to work community road a bit to get rid of some potholes etc.

That's interesting. How do prepare them and what kind of furnace?
I've wondered if there is a small-scale biomass process to convert something like the sweetgum saplings I cut to pellets, without hauling them to a central plant?
I save old Motor Oil to put on brush piles (I know the greenies are gasping just now). I pour it on top of the pile and let it soak in for a few hours. Then use diesel in a pump up sprayer and saturate one end of the pile.
I take my propane torch and start the fire with that and then use a leaf blower to force feed oxygen to the base of the pile. Just a few minutes of that and you have a HOT, roaring fire.
