Battery replacement

I need to replace the battery in my six year old tractor before the really cold temperatures arrive. Would appreciate suggestions, it’s for a b2601 if that matters.

Buy the biggest( highest amps and time) that'll fit AND get a 'battery warmer' for it.

Messicks shows the OE battery is a 55B24L (JIS rating), that would convert to a group 51R

(verify the JIS number on the battery though!)

I have found that Walmart batteries are usually the "best bank for the buck".
The Walmart EverStart MAXX in group 51R size is listed at $149.94
500CCA with 3 year FREE replacement.
Wow.....battery prices must be seriously suffering from "Bidenflation"

Batteries really aren't a great mystery. There are only 2 or three companies that make all of the "brands" that you see.

I have had long lasting Batteries from Costco...With the right ampere rates and size! Make sure the post are on the right side!
Yes both of our tractors have them.

Sam's Club has the Duracell brand for $129.88, the CCA aren't clear as to which is the best but supposedly they are both made by East Penn. IMO East Penn is the best of the major manufacturers.

I suspect that East Penn, and the others, have different quality levels that they can provide according to what the retailer is willing to pay.

Always had good luck with Interstate batteries. You got me thinking now…my BX25D is going on 10 years with the original battery. Seems as good as the day it was delivered but that can change quickly! Might be a good idea for me to start looking as well.

Advance Auto bought the rights to the Die Hard name, and I was impressed with the CCA that they are now one of the best batteries for the money. If you are looking to save some money, contact the Interstate Factory Distributor in your area and ask for a "reconditioned" battery. These are usually Interstate batteries that have been returned as "defective", but test good and are relabeled with a generic name. The last one that I bought was $40 plus the core. I have gotten 3 or 4 years out of every battery that I have purchased, except for the one for the PT Cruiser. That car kills batteries with a very high electrical drain. I now use the Die Hard 3 year battery and will probably be getting a new one for free next spring.

Another vote for Walmart Everstart....Return for warranty is EZ....Hard to beat their batteries for price & quality, regardless of brand name. Make sure it's 'fresh'; should be a origination date (small sticker) on the case, anything W/I 6 months should be fine.

I had a run of bad batteries from Walmart and now suspect that their buyers beat every last nickel out of the battery manufacturers. I will never buy another battery from Walmart for as long as I live after the hell they put me thru.
It is interesting that Sam's Club is owned by Walmart but sell the Duracell brand that other retailers also offer. I guess that they don't want to be in competition with themselves.

I guess that is not bad if you can get 10 years+ out of one…

If you made it 6 years on the battery you currently have installed, I would buy that same battery brand and size.

I get all my batteries, incl. for fobs etc., from our local Central Battery here in Charlottesville, Va. They're great.
