Buckets Dropping When Tractor Shut-off

I thought I'd ask a bigger audience...

Is it normal for a new Kubota TLB to have the loader bucket and backhoe bucket dump when the engine is shut off? There is a clicking sound, and the buckets drop over about half and hour. For the first hundred hours or so they stayed in place - and there was no clicking.

BTW - And I know that buckets shouldn't be left up - I just do it when I'm shoveling mulch or compost.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I've never had that happen with my L35.
The hydraulics remain where I left them if I shut off the engine.
I've done this just to see what happens over maybe 30 minutes or so.

normal for all hydraulics that don't have 'pilot operated' valving...
how fast depends on who machined the spool valves. tight valves take awhile...
also more weight, faster gravity works !

Doubt it’s the source of your problem, but does the clicking originate from the loader or backhoe frames themselves?

Just thinking it could be an indication of a pin or two needing grease. Maybe just coincidence.

If I leave the mower deck up when I park my little BX, it will click as it lowers.

Normal is a setting on a dryer. Sounds like the valves are leaking more than one would want but half an hour is nothing to get excited about.

My BX2380 loses hydraulic pressure when shut off. When I tilt bucket a little and set on ground with pressure, it's relaxed and mower deck is dropped next time I start, sometimes in a few hours. only has 44 hours on it, my BX1870 wasn't this bad with almost 500 hrs on it.

Any external leaks?

Not that I see. I’m dropping it off at dealer for couple other issues, I’m gonna make a list. Don’t think there’s enough pressure either. I have about 1690psi at 3k rpm. Whenever I have a little weight in bucket and go to turn, it’s difficult, then gets better. This tractor has been extremely disappointing from the get go😡😡😡

Dropped it off at dealer on Wednesday so they could look at it on Thursday. I had 3 things on wish list- the uneven bucket/loader, the seat frame rubbing against fender metal above fuel tank, and low hydraulic pressure/ bucket dropping after short amount of time. Stopped by yesterday to see if they had chance to figure anything out. They ordered some "leveling kit" for loader that will be here on Monday. Will try to adjust seat a little when they bring it back in shop. They also ordered some shims to raise the hydraulic psi.

Any news on why the loader drops?
Haven't heard anything yet. They were supposed to get some "leveling kit" yesterday then bring it back in shop. I have a feeling my bucket SSQA isn't seating properly into left side of bucket isn't gonna be fixed. Stopped and got a price on a 1023R today. Might go green, tired of dealing with Kubota BS on the BX...

Please keep us up-dated, my L47 (330hrs) does the same thing, I capped off the hoses to test the rams and it still dropped, figure it is the ram seals, just found out that the kit, 7 seals/O-rings is $250 per ram. $500 plus tax to DIY rebuild my 2 bucket rams, Ridiculous.

Basically the bucket tilt cylinder loses pressure the fastest, everything else hydraulic settles over a few hours. My BX1870 wasn't like this, even with almost 500 hrs on it. May swing by dealer tomorrow to see if any more info.

I wonder if the click is actually related to the drift, or the shutting down. Possibly a fuel relay making the noise? Did the buckets drift if the tractor was left idling for 30 minutes?

The loader on my l3901 makes that same noise as it drifts down. I believe if is just a mechanical "creak" and likely caused by slip/stick behavior as the cylinder slowly bleeds off pressure and then suddenly retracts. It is definitly coming from the lift mechanism.

Engine running won't stop cylinder drift from leaking seals or spools.

That certainly has been my experience.

Some sort of solenoid-activated isolation valve might be possible (kind of like a pilot check, but electrically actuated), but it would only serve to prevent seepage past a spool valve. No help at all if the leakage is internal to the cylinder.

The bucket on my 2380 also drops over time after shutting it off - it has ever since I bought it. I don't normally keep the loader on mine so it's not been a major point of concern - I just thought it was expected pressure loss. When I am done with the tractor, I set the mower deck height to top. I store it in my garage and push it in / out so as not to have exhaust hanging around in the house. If I don't set to top, the deck will eventually lower all the way and the wheels will hit the concrete, especially the lip height between the driveway and garage floor. I will say mine doesn't drop as quickly as half-hour, takes day for the loader from drive height to hit the floor.

Is it not expected for the dydraulics to lose any pressure?
