I sent an email to Construction Attachments Inc. this weekend to ask about price and availability of their Xtreme Duty Boom Pole. I'm wondering if CAI is related to Everything Attachments in some way given their location and the use of the word Xtreme.

Many years ago when I worked as a diver/welder I made something similar but it worked with pallet forks rather than a SSQA. With the current cost of steel, coupled with my time, it might be a better idea to buy something like that shown. I need to stand up heavy steel pipe to set in sonutubes and raise some steel trusses for a couple of barn/shed projects and this boom might be the ticket on the M6060 loader.

How about using your pallet fork frame without the forks? Just chain the pipe to the frame.

I agree with jyoutz, start with a set of pallet forks and a couple of lengths drill pipe, weld them up to accomplish the task then grind the welds off.

hmm.. the longer the boom, the less you can lift !! grab a pencil and paper and be SURE you CAN before you buy/make a pole boom. Someone who has your model tractor may already KNOW what the limits are.

You 'may' be able to slide a pipe over a fork with some 'clamping chain' on the 'tip' end. Cost is zero, old bodger's way of doing it.

Just a thought, a little to do with this: Scrap steel is getting more valuable every day. I've got enough beams behind my garage to make something like this. Sorry I'm not closer to you OP.

I need to get enough elevation to place trusses and the pipes that are going to be columns. The columns aren't that much of a challenge since I could do as you mention, but the trusses will need a picking point about 16ft off the deck.

The boom I made years ago consisted of two pieces of 8" C-channel with slots for the forks to go into, one C-channel near the base of the forks, one near the end. It had an 8" or so H-beam for the 8ft or so boom that sat on top of the C-channel with appropriate gusseting. We used it for years to load/unload all manner of diving and welding equipment from trucks, boats, etc. I guess I should price something like that as a sanity check. I don't know how much the CAI boom costs but it's probably north of $1k.

I wince a little every time I think of all the steel I left with the ex-wife in Hawaii. I had thousands of dollars worth of heavy walled tubing, plate, angle etc. I've told her many times to sell it and not sell it cheap, but she still has it stacked up in the garage.

For this one time use, I think I would see what rental fees cost for one of those wheeled lifts. Someone near me used one recently for constructing a pole barn.

Renting presents it's own set of problems, the worst being the need to get the work done in X number of hours or days. If I make up a boom pole I could always cut it up when I'm done and use the steel for other projects. No word from CAI yet.

This was my solution:
It has a ATV winch (which would have been better mounted lower) that has a remote control.
I ran it off a small battery strapped to the fork frame.
Much smoother setting the trusses with it that it was with Loader controls, and an added bonus I could shimmy up a ladder lift them just enough to move them into place and then set them down and pin them up right.
Could lift the trusses up from the center about 1/3 down easily, and they are up there 19 foot to the peak.

Reaching out 8' or 10' will lift a lot less than lifting straight up the same distance. But if you can leave one end on the ground while you manouver the tractor (or drag the object towards the tractor) while you get it upright and close to the tractor, then it's a simple lift straight up. Alternatively, if the base is planted on the ground then the tractor is just a counterbalance.

I have 2 one off the bucket and one of the 3pl

4In1 Bucket Hitch w Gin Pole V3.jpg

This one uses my 4in1 bucket hitch
I replace the hitch ball mount with the pole and strap it to the bucket hooks
4In1 Bucket Hitch with HR.jpg

This is the hitch with the ball mounted

This is the pole off the back.
Its just for vertical lifts

IMG_20200129_165538.jpg

This is the winch munt for the pole
I use the winch to install the pole
I attach the winch cable to the tractor and release the top link
Let out the cable and pivot down the mount
Insert the pole and pivot it up then attach the top link

I hope you guys are wearing hard hats.

I had a 3-pt boom pole for almost 20 years which I’d bought for use on my 9N because it had no FEL. I think I used it a couple times before it was relegated to the same corner of the barn as the Quick-Hitch.
I gave it away to a local farmer last year. (I guess I could have taken it to the scrap yard. They’d have paid almost 8-cents a pound for it….

I made a simple one from 2” square tube and a hitch receiver. It goes vertical from a ssqa plate. Simple hook and non telescoping so far.

I was building my 32x 40 x12 high garage 19 years ago this spring. I built one for raising the walls in 16 ft sections and the trusses. I made it from a pallet rack end frame and attached to the 3pt on my 8N. Used a electric winch mounted down by the 3 point to raise things. Still lays around by the garage, I figured it might come in handy changing a pump in my well or if my son built a garage.

I friend of mine let me use is boom-pole that he had converted from a 3 pt setup to pallet forks. I was building a garage and use it to set the trusses with my L3901DT. Here is a picture of it, I was loading it on my trailer to take back to him.

I didn't hear back from Construction Attachments Inc so I called them this past Friday. Their response was that they only sell to dealers, which they don't mention on their website. Turns out the local Kubota dealership is a dealer. I'll reach out to them this morning.
