The rain has finally stopped so I can get to work on the barnyard. Has been composting dirt with horse manure for s3veral years so going to move that dirt to where we are going to put the garden. Now getting the sand to replace it. Better drainage for the Deep South rain. Befor and after pics. That as 15 yrds. Have another 30 coming to get all of it done. Fun day on the tractor.

Looks good, that sand will tighten it up. Would you be better off to disc it in, then slope for grade?

So the other 30 yards arrived. Horses supervised that. Got it all spread and mostly level. Still learning how to use the box blade and tractor/lFEL.

Looking at the first picture of the bardyard is there a way to have the downspout drain away from the bard yard? I can not tell from the pictures what the elevation around the barn is like but having that water away from the yard will help dry up the front of the barn and make those horses happy.

You did a nice job with the tractor work and spreading the dirt.

How are you doing the raised garden? Are you planning on building a frame around the dirt piles? If so with what?

That downspout flows away from the barnyard.
My wife is in charge of the garden. She has been doing a lot of reading on how to set it up. The dirt is sitting on landscape/weed cloth. She had worked in peetmoss and old grass clippings as mulch. The mounds should hold their shape on their own. Will make weeding much easier and with the weed cloth keep bugs down.

I have never seen beds done that way. I hope it works. Are you far enough south that you will plant a spring and a fall garden? After growing up in the north planting garden in the fall is hard to wrap my head around.

It looks like you are making a beautiful home. Best of luck!

Yes we are as you can get in the Deep South. Outside Biloxi. We get a spring and fall garden. Only been here two years. Making progress. This was our last move so we can set down some roots finally.
