    Trench Closer?

On young pecan trees, you generally want a grass/weed area around the trees so they don't compete for resources. You can tell I'm doing the opposite of that:ROFLMAO: I'm new to doing to the Ag world and unfortunately, I wasn't able to be at our orchard when the Johnson grass started, so I've...

The fun doesn't stop. 3 point piston seals on M4900.

Loader works fine, picks up the tractor no problem. Hoping I don't have any pressure problems as I just put in a brand new pump a couple of months ago...

The fun doesn't stop. 3 point piston seals on M4900.

I'll have to wait until next time I'm at the orchard, but thanks for the suggestion. What else could be the problem, position valve?

    Trench Closer?

I should update this. The situation improved by at least 50%. The biggest issue was Johnson Grass clogging the V. On sections with less Johnson grass it worked really well. I did end up throwing a set of small discs on top of the V for weight. I'm going to revisit the situation this winter...

The fun doesn't stop. 3 point piston seals on M4900.

Well after the fun of diagnosing and replacing the hydraulic pump a couple of months ago (thanks to help from this board), I'm pretty sure my piston seals on the 3 point hydraulic piston are toast. I hadn't really used the 3 point much other than using a trench closer about 6 weeks ago. While...

M4900 Hydraulic Problems. Power steering, PTO are OK. Everything else weak

Finally got the pump in yesterday. Looks like this ordeal is over. After installation, I had the relief valve almost all the way out and started up the tractor for very short periods and couldn't get any flow. I did this less than a handful of times and less than 10 seconds. Enough to know...

    Trench Closer?

I'm going to drink a few beers and weld this channel into a V and give it a try. If it doesn't work, not much is lost.

    Trench Closer?

That's awesome, but I'm not making that in half a day and I'm definitely not buying that. I do have a set of small discs I could run in front of the V.

    Trench Closer?

I have a little over 3 miles of trenches I need to close up. All were done with a 6" wide trencher and vary from 12" to 30" deep. They are mains, sub-mains, and laterals for a pecan orchard irrigation system. My dirt is an alluvial silt loam, with a decent clay component. If I catch it at...

M4900 Hydraulic Problems. Power steering, PTO are OK. Everything else weak

I'd still have to cut grooves for snap rings to locate my gear correctly. Ok, but why now when it wasn't really being used hard? Mainly, I just don't want to repeat this. I'm probably just going to go OEM. I need the tractor sooner than later. I work for myself, so time working on this is...

M4900 Hydraulic Problems. Power steering, PTO are OK. Everything else weak

I could cut the intake tubes and reweld them to fit this pump, or make an adapter plate, but with the shaft also not having the two grooves for the snap rings, I'm worried about what else in the pump is wrong. I'm probably just going to buy an OEM pump. What I really want to know is why this...

M4900 Hydraulic Problems. Power steering, PTO are OK. Everything else weak

Alright experts, seal kit? Worth a try for $100? I thought there was varnish in there at first, but looks like it's a backer. The only real concerning thing I can see is the wear on the aluminum bushing holders. Not actually sure what they are called. Pics.

M4900 Hydraulic Problems. Power steering, PTO are OK. Everything else weak

To start off, I didn't check the power steering side pressure. There was no way I was fitting anything in between the pump and the hardline without taking the entire hard line off and I really didn't want to take the dash apart to get to the steering valve. A fairly interesting observation was...

M4900 Hydraulic Problems. Power steering, PTO are OK. Everything else weak

I'll do this when I get the pump in as I'll be taking that off anyways. While I haven't done any flow tests yet, I've discharged fluid into a bucket quickly a couple of times and did the pressure tests into a bucket as well. Probably 20 seconds total, but I'd say there's a little over a few...

M4900 Hydraulic Problems. Power steering, PTO are OK. Everything else weak

My intelligent colleague just made a good point. Maybe there is some kind of suction problem? How much PSI does it take to make the steering work?
